Is the wet bottom ( urine)always concentrated even when the rabbit is just starting to show symptoms?

Hmm i'm guessing maybe it wouldn't be..but maybe when EC is more advanced...i'm not sure but Randy should know.

When Charlie had her urine tested a couple weeks ago i don't think it showed up as being concentrated,i cannot remember if he even mentioned that anyway....she had no infection's or crystalsanyway so it wasn't cyctitis that was giving her a wet bottom....i'm waiting to hear from Dr Lee anyway so i will have to ask about Charlie's results again.

oh boy, now I'm a little concerned!! I think I'm going to see if my vet can run the Titer test on my baby just to be sure.
Yep,i would talk to your vet about it....just to be sure..you know

Pippi never had anything wrong with his urine like sludge or anything it was just very concentrated with a strong smell....and Charlie just continues to have a wet bottom.

Is she using the litter box at all? Pidge still uses the litter box, but then there are other times when he doesnt, he just sits there and pees. I am so confused what to do, I did a little more research on EC and certain things I read about it, it was like No, he can't have EC, but then there were other things and symptoms and I thought to myself, maybe he does! I talked to my mom about it, she thinks I'm overreacting. At the same time though, why does he get a wet bottom and has lost the weight? I don't know. I think I may call the vet and see if they are capable of doing the test, just to ease my own mind!

bunnymommy.. Charlie still goes to her litter box but she has also started weeing on the floor near her litter box.

I calledthe vetjust a minute ago...ahh Dr Lee is away this week this is why i have not heard from him,he's back Monday....anyway i made an appoitment for 10:20am monday morning to take Charlie in...i need to get her right rear leg checked out anyway...she's not dragging it or anything like Pippi used to do occassionally with his left rear leg though...i may just be over reacting but i'm going to get it checked out anyway.

And i want to get her weight checked again also.

Other than that, she's a happy little bunny doing all her usual bunny stuff :)

I hate to even post this but after Babette passed and I have had more time to devote to the others I am realizing that Gabriel has a wet bottom. he may have had it for ahwile because while i was caring for Babette i was just covering bases with him.
I need to weigh him and keep track of his weight. I have to wash him daily and apply neosporin and desitin because he is always wet and sitting in the same place.
I plan to get him tested when I can get a few $$ together.

To be completely honest, I'm not sure th EC blood titer is worth it. My bf's bunny had it, and it was expensive, and all it tells you is that they've been exposed to EC at some point in their life. Almost every bunny has been exposed to EC, especially if they were ever in a shelter. And being exposed to it doesn't mean they'll actually contract the disease. I would invest in liver and kidney function tests first, then appointments with a rabbit specialist, personally. Just MHO.

PS: Angieluv, if you are looking for a specialist, you could take Gabriel to the UW Madison Vet School's hospital. They're really good and I know they're aware of EC. They do the titer too, if you really want it.

That's what Dr Lee more or less said when it was found that Pippi had EC and because he was showing the sign's of EChe just said it wasn't any point and also he didn't know which lab would be able to do the test...which again i thought any lab would be able to do it :?

So i just don't know...when i see him on Monday morningi'll ask a few question's

Crystal..i'm not going to let this consume me just yet..although i am a terrible worrier,my mum is alway's saying that i'm going to give myself a heart attack because i worry about everything to much.

Maureen..i will be praying that Gabriel doesn't have it also.

I had actually heard this also; I was thinking that it would be great if the test just came back negative and could be ruled out.

I can get the test done here (even I'm surprised. )

The vet school in madison is great but too far and too expensive for me at the moment

I'm not going to do anything right away but just observe him for awhile.

thanks fior the info :D

That is true that a negative EC titer would at least rule it out... but I think the chances of that are pretty low with most bunnies. I just got out the invoice for Benjamin's neuter/blood test/EC test, and the blood pathology test was $33.20, and the EC titer was $41.70. Not cheap. :( But if it brings you peace of mind or confirms a diagnosis so you can set a treatment course, then it's worth it.

Good luck to you both whatever you decide to do, and good health wishes to your bunnies! Whatever happens, I'll be here cheering you all on and wishing for the best!
:clover::goodluck

I called Pidge's doctor yesterday to see if they can perform the EC test, they said that they can but she really didn't think that he needed she really just seemes to think that it is behavioral. She said all his bloodwork came back perfect his kidney and liver are functioning properly. She was really wasn't concerned about EC, his biggest problem is just the wetting. I just feel so bad for him because he is so urine burned on his legs.

Just a thought to those of you who had a rabbit pass, and then the the other rabbits in the hosehold started wetting, could this be behavioral in your rabbits also because they miss the rabbit that passed away??

Just a thought, I was so worried about Pidge when he started wetting, but His doctor is very convinced that it is just a behavioral issue!

Hmmm...i have no idea about it being a behavioural issue..unless the bunny was just sitting in it's own wee for some reasonor if it just had incontinence from a weak bladder....but i'm really not sure what else it could be tocause the wet bottom unless it was a medical issue.

Someone else may have other ideas though

I don't know if it is behavioral.

I guess that if a rabbit was depressed and grieving he might just sit in urine and not use the box....but I have never heard of this.
I have never had a rabbit just sit and wet himself and sit in it unless they had a medical problem. Gabriel does this at times but at other times he doesn't, however I too think that there is something not normal with him.
Wait for more replies on this one ..maybe someone has a rabbit that does this.'I think that they could wet outside the litterbox and that could be behavioral but to wet outside the litterbox and sit in it doesn.t seem normal.
I don't think that I'm being really helpful
:(

I do agree with you there..i just don't see it as being behavioural..but then i don't really know either...like i said unless it was a medical issue or a weak bladder or something.
