    My new baby flemmies!

They did lighten up a lot, but I still think they're mixes. That dark face on the one, and the head shape, doesn't look Flemish. Do try to weigh them, because often, weight loss or flattening of the growth curve is your first clue there's something wrong, even when they look and act normal...

    My new baby flemmies!

If that "breeder" felt they were ready to be sold as soon as they were able to eat hay, he's a moron and should be kicked in the balls. Not a single responsible Flemish (or whatever these are) breeder thinks 3-5 weeks is a suitable time for them to go out into the world without Mom. They...

    Help Please! Sick Bunny :(

Because of the neurological symptoms (hindquarters paralysis, loss of control over peeing and pooping), I am really surprised your vet didn't immediately suspect e. cuniculi. Does this vet commonly see wabbits? If not, try to find one who does. Often, the guys who also do livestock will be...

    Worlds biggest bunny!

Almost no one in the US messes actively with Contis or German Giants. I have Flemish. I also read that article, and that poor wabbit eats a tremendous amount of crap, personally. My biggest doe is 21-point-something pounds. She's built like a truck and has a very long frame. My biggest buck...

Need to put some weight on some very thin gals

If they were on hard times when you got them, let them eat almost anything they want, provided they issue good, normal poops. It's the NOT eating/pooping that's the problem. Once they get back to good form, then calm them down with orchard grass and mid-protein feed. But if they're needing to...

Opinions on Lionheads.. Please! (and more)

My own opinion? Go slow. Focus on the varieties that are either already approved (there are only two: tort and ruby-eyed-white) or that are in serious development, and tell your buyers the status of the breed. Don't breed or sell junk. If in doubt, DON'T do it. Sorry to be blunt about it...

Will have Flemish available at Convention

Ummmm... ARBA... you know, National Convention?

Will have Flemish available at Convention

I will be bringing four sandy Flemish 6/8s; interested in selling two of the does. If you'll be there and could use new stock, let me know. Parents have 15 legs, grandparents 16 legs, excellent lines, all detailed pedigree. The sister I'm not selling already has 5 legs including several good...

    2012 ARBA Convention in Kansas

Definitely figure on a day to walk around and look at everything; it'll blow your mind, particularly if you haven't bred and shown. It's an enormous world and there's a lot to see and many people to talk to. I wander around and look at breeds I don't normally see at regional shows. I know at...

What breed of rabbit is Sunny??

If he's 6 months old and just four or five pounds, I vote against Flemish. They're four or five pounds at barely two months, and I have some not yet five months who weigh 12 or 13. He does have the Flemish body type, head and ears, and the fawn fur, so I'd guess some sort of Flemish/smallbreed mix.

    New white kits!!!!

Hey, our Flemish Giant doe, Wendy, had a terrific litter on Halloween... they're on camera now at http://www.wabbitcam.com. Wendy got her grand this fall, and her boyfriend, London, has five (or six -- I forget) legs, and these kits are ENORMOUS. Seriously, they are small cows. All their eyes...

    Is this Flemish a Sandy?

Wait, how old is that doe? Never jump to decisions before they're 4 months old or so... I've seen more than a few who had odd color hints when they were young, but grew up to have spectacular coats. When they're young, they're just too volatile and you'll see all sorts of odd things that vanish...

    Maryland Flemish!

We've never encountered such a person in the last three years, nor any hint of a website, so I guess you've got me there. Realistically, in 2010, if you're not on the web, you are almost invisible to the people who are likely to buy your wabbits in this region.

Critique On Two Junior Flemish Giants

Nom seems to rise a little too early and doesn't have quite the height over the hips, but can't really tell without seeing how they were posed.

    Genetics 101, and ranting thereabout

Normally, I'd try to do that, but once this guy decided that all the Flemish breeders he had talked to were full of it, there really wasn't any talking to him after that, and I wouldn't have felt right about inflicting him on some poor innocent New Zealand breeder!

    Genetics 101, and ranting thereabout

Yep. Usually I have a pretty well-tuned sense of when people are really looking for meat rabbits, but it failed this time.

    Genetics 101, and ranting thereabout

Well, see, that's the thing. When people get in this mindset of "I been doin' this a long time so can't nobody tell me nothin'," I'm pretty sure they're probably not worth listening to. It's a pretty poor day I don't learn something new about wabbits, and I'm always willing to learn it because...

    Genetics 101, and ranting thereabout

OK, normally I don't go off on things like this, but after the last day or so dealing with one potential buyer, I just have to say something here. First of all, we do Flemish. It's all we do. In Flemish, in some ways we have it easy compared to a lot of breeds. We have seven colors, and they're...

    selling babies?? What you do??

Pretty much all of the above, but also an agreement that if the wabbit doesn't work, out, they will NOT turn it loose in the yard, drop it at a shelter, or give it away to some stranger, they will bring it back to US. We have needed to use this a couple of times, and it's been worth it.

How many rabbits in your herd - or how do you know when you have "enough"?

Hollands? One buck, and that's enough! Flemish, well, take the space you would normally devote to a horse. Divide it by three. That's how many Flemish you can have.
