They do actually make bunny safe shampoo, we sell some at the pet store I manage. Its supposed to be gentle for the skin, but I can say I have never used it personally.

Sorry to hear that, its always sad to re-home a loved pet. Perhaps in the future you could look into a dwarf bunny or holland lop, they stay pretty small, do well in cages or fenced/sectioned off area's. *huggles*
