'Pee sticks' when fostering kits off a doe

I had the strangest thing happen tonight! I was fostering my rejected kits (only two remain :( had to put the runt down yesterday, too weak) off their dam today. I stimulated the bigger one with a Q-tip and cleaned up some excess (pee's like a horse). I set the Q-tip aside when the doe sniffs...

    Not getting enough

If the doe is sane and lactating, place her on something large, soft, and secure (couch or cushioned chair, even on a blanket on the floor). Line up the babies along the sides of her and let them go to town. Pet her and make sure she's calm and quiet. Just did this today with three and it...

    Quick stimulation question

My doe (large, healthy, experienced mother) kindled five kits yesterday. I was happy to find them fat with colostrum and content in their fur nest. This morning I found the nest scattered and the two largest (a black and tort) injured beyond help and where put to sleep on the spot to keep them...

    Plush Satin

I have two youngsters, roughly 3.5-4 mouths now. The sire is my Vienna (98% +/- blue eyes) out of my Self Black Satin Doe. Now, this is were the weird part comes in... Both kits have soft, plush coats. It's light and fluffy, moderate thickness, like an undercoat almost. The guard hairs...

Is She a BEW or a REW??

A BEW with REW in the background will produce poor, purpleish colored BEW eyes (not breeding material) If her iris is black - Poorly bred BEW with REW background If her iris is red or pink - REW! :D

Doe was due on the 25th of November

I had several does due to kindle end of November. It's now mid-December and I have ONE showing nesting behavior! I was feeding and watering the other day and observed my rather fat doe burrowing into her hay (I have all the cages packed with extra hay because of the weather) and jumping...

    Ultrasounding a rabbit?

OakRidgeRabbits wrote: The problem is that the guy I bought them from doesn't know when exactly he bred them. He just kinda guessed "sometime soon" :? I palpated and it felt like they had kits due quite soon but so far, absolutely nothing. I'll check them again today. I'll give them until...

Lionhead breeders - REJOICE! Blacks & Torts passed 1st presentation

Wow, I didn't notice they weren't accepted into the ARBA! They're so popular (and so freakishly adorable) I just kinda assumed that they where :) That is really exciting. I'd love to see Lionheads accepted, considering how hard people have worked towards perfecting the breed and showing their...

    Ultrasounding a rabbit?

Has anyone had their rabbit (pregnant or otherwise) ultrasounded? Do you shave the area before hand, or not? I was pondering my future farm, and realized how awesome it would be to have an ultrasound machine. On E-bay you can find them from $250-$1,000+ (used generally runs $800-$1,000). I...

    Critique my Mini Rex

Is the broken chocolate (love his color, BTW) still a Junior buck? My Dutch buck had the BIGGEST ears until he really matured, it was crazy. Now there pretty and small :)

    Please Help me....

I would keep him in with the other litter and just see how he does. So long as he's gotten a bit of colostrum, he can wait until his new momma goes to feed again. He looks a bit runty, in my opinion. It could be that her previous owners (did you get her from a rabbitry, or a private person?)...

I would check out Lone Star Rabbity's shipping policy. Their the only ones I know of that ship at the moment :)

    Blue based eye?

BlueCamasRabbitry wrote: He's more of a broken, I'd say. Buut Vienna's do come in broken-imitating patterns so it's a bit of a quirk. His sire (Charlie Blue) is almost more of a dark Chinchilla versus a black. I'll have to look at him tomorrow. Charlie Blue is also a quirk, he's either a...

    Blue based eye?

Thanks for the replies :D He is a Chinchilla out of a Vienna buck. The 'base color' is a really bright, beautiful blue. I'll put him down as a Chinchilla Vienna, I'm not keeping him in my breeding program as his eyes are less then 50% solid blue.

(WARNING: DISTURBING CONTENT) what a stupid...

As a hunting enthusiast, I found that to be extremely disturbing and HIGHLY inhumane. A live trap, properly placed, would have done the same job without the suffering. Stress would be the only harm done until the animal is released or HUMANELY put down IF necessary. Trapping IMO is an...
