    Owning rabbits and zoning laws

I am pretty sure there isn't in the Fairbanks environs- large teams of sled dogs are yarded up (like up to 80) fairly routinely around here. The house two doors down has 25 dogs...pretty noisy if they all start howling at once.

    new Merck manual for pets

Just saw this article when I was reading the NY Times this morning: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/12/18/health/research/18pet.html?_r=1&oref=slogin (you may need to create a free account to read the article, so I will also try to paste the article below) I'll have to check it out the next time...

leave alone for one full day

Mine get left alone for a day or two as well. I am pretty careful to leave them with an extra water bottle in case something happens to one bottle, and all sorts of food. Mine are very good about rationing their food (e.g., they only seem to eat when hungry), so this helps. I figure it is the...

    Can Rabbits Swim?

The Audobon field guide description of a swamp rabbit reads, "enjoys swimming and diving, day and night". I always laugh when I re-read that. It just conjures up a funny image of a continually diving and swimming swamp rabbit.

    Why a rabbit?

I have always just loved rabbits. I had many rabbits when was a kid- Rabby, Jerome, Victor, Sloppy Joe, Abbie, Benjamin, and the list goes on. Usually, I got them for free at flea markets or from people who had them as pets and didn't want them anymore. I took a break from rabbits for almost 20...

    winnie likes the heating pad

My buns love the heat vents too. I was worried they would hate them (they are free ranging buns), but theyf wait for the heat to come, and just go lie right over them. Also, I was in Greenland this past summer for work, and there was an ecological experiment going on where the soils were...

    I am a bunny's new mama!!

That's awesome! Congratulations on your new family member. I am so glad that you were able to get Rory. He looks very cute, esp. with those airplane ears he seems to have in the Petfinder photos. I am relieved to know that at least I know that one of the bunnies in the Fairbanks shelter is going...

    excited to have bunnies again!

Hey, That's great! If you can go today though, I would. Sometimes those buns at the Fairbanks shelter go really fast (I've often wondered where they go....the adoption fee is so low I just hope they go to good homes, and not to a snake for dinner...) E2

    excited to have bunnies again!

That is really sad about the buns that overwintered outside in Fairbanks. Actually, it is just downright cruel. We have days colder than -40 F here. Even their water would freeze in just a few minutes. Well, I guess it is good she gave the rabbits to the shelter. I just hope that someone gets...

    excited to have bunnies again!

Hi Shiloh, I am just catching up on reading RO, and didn't see your intro. until today. Wow, someone else in Fairbanks. That's where I am too. I have two buns that came from the Anchorage shelter. Karan actually helped me arrange for transport from Anchorage to Fairbanks. Oh, the Fairbanks...

If You Had Wild Rabbits In Your Yard

It snowed here this weekend, and all of a sudden, all sorts of rabbit tracks in the snow. Everywhere. We have the big snowshoe hares here that turn white in the winter. Amazing feet. It's funny though b/c I don't often see the hares, but realized today how many there must be with all the tracks...

    Another bunny?

Hi Tundrakatiebean, I hope you have fun with Karen at the shelter on Sunday, and I am really glad you can help her with taking pictures of her rabbits. She also helped me find my two buns, and sent them up to Fairbanks for me (where I live). I think she has lots of buns right now as she left a...

Hello from me and two buns

Golly, I have never seen dandelion seeds sold here. It seems like in the US they are viewed as the worst of all weeds!

Hello from me and two buns

Hi, It is funny that you mention planting dandelions in pots. I did think of that too. I wonder if it would work... I have never had rabbits that like dandelions so much. I put a whole assortment of greens that I bought from the store (trying to find something they will like this winter), and...

Hi Star, Thanks for the welcome Yeah, not so many rabbit lovers in Alaska. But so so many people have dogs, and and usually more than one. I have just always loved rabbits.

    Unbelievable!

I read Craig's list too- almost everyday. Addictive in some strange way and sad to see how many pets go unwanted. How about this one? http://anchorage.craigslist.org/pet/410143654.html

Hello from me and two buns

Hi, Thanks for welcoming me to this forum. Here are some pics (if I did it correctly) of the buns (Arial, the agouti, and Edward). Arial has lots of energy and likes to jump up on the couch and explore the stuffed animal collection. Edward is no slouch either, although not quite as big of a...

Hello from me and two buns

I'm happy to have found this forum. I have two house rabbits I adopted from a shelter in May. They have been a big bright spot in my life recently. My newest hobby is picking dandelions- these two rabbits just love dandelions, and I'll be sorry when winter comes (I live in Alaska) and there...
