We recently took an abandoned rabbit from a moving family and I think that we are in over our heads. The rabbit has been eating veggies and some fruit for about 10-14 days, and has been drinking water regularly. The last couple of days the rabbit doesn’t seem to be eating much of anything, and the poop has become mushy. I have read that we need to get hay; is there anything else that we can do? I am trying to avoid a vet visit if possible, but also need to know what to look for if visit is inevitable. Thank you!

Yes, hay right away. Hay should make up the bulk of their diet (about 80-85%). Keep an eye on those poos too. Hopefully the hay will cause the poos to firm up. You don't want to see very small poos or fewer poos. They have such delicate digestive systems.

Get some grass hay like timothy, bermuda, orchard, oat, meadow. Stop the fruit for now - super sugary and not necessary.

Here's a summary of good diet.
