When I went out to the rabbits this morning (8 am),the doors of the barn were open wide. I freaked out because I knew I closed them tight last night. When I got in the barn, everything was a mess. Feederson the ground, water lines for the watering system pulled off, everything under the cages scattered and all my show equipment knocked over. Something even PULLED trays out from under the cages!
But I am SO thankful no rabbits were injured or killed. (I'm still shaking now!) My poor rabbits! I checked all their feet, no one was bitten through the cages. (They all had something to stand on to get off the wire.) Most of the water systems were drained, they had no water (I'm guessing a few hours).
I found footprints on some show reports that were laying on the ground, I'm sure it was a dog or two. I'm so upset that my dogs or I didn't hear anything or see anything. I have motion sensor lights all around the barn... (I'd like to thank the guy that built my cages so strong! The dog obviously tried to pull some doors open and they held! I have to call him this morning!) I'm guessing the dog was just looking for mischief and wasn't intent on killing anything, or couldn't get at them.
I just got everything cleaned back up, water restored, everyone got their morning hay and hugs. The Flemish look fine for the most part, but some of the Mini Rex needed holding and comforting. Thank God no one was kindling last night!! I have 4 litters due this evening... (My heart is pounding! As soon as I can calm down, I'm off to the Hardware store for some BIG locks and Bolts!) I hate people that let their dogs run loose!
