Best way(s) to groom Rex fur?

I do a combination of things for my mini rex. Everytime I pet him during the day, I pluck. I rub his nose while plucking any fur that is sticking out. He settles right into the floor and seems to love it. Occasionally I might pull on something that is too well attached and he will jump up, but...

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2

Loved it! May be my favorite one yet. I just wish it had been longer. I might go see it again this weekend. :biggrin2:

    Rabbit treats

Dried strawberries and papaya work well as treats. Make sure you go get ones that have no added sugar. I typically just use fresh banana as a treat. That's my bunny's favorite.

    Promoting play

There are so many toys my rabbit likes and most are cheap or free! His favorites are empty cardboard paper towel or toilet paper tubes. He chews on them and tosses them around. He also loves boxes. I have a long skinny one - about 8 inches square and about four feet long that my hammock came in...

    Shedding More Than He Should?

:yeahthat: I think I have enough hair floating around my place to build another bunny! I have a mini-rex that looks like a cactus with tufts sticking out all over. I just use my furminator and brush him at least once a day and every time I pet him, I pluck out more. As long as he has access...

    Moulting! Help!

I have a furminator brush for my rabbit and I love it. He hates being groomed...at first. I catch him and hold him down gently around his shoulders on a towel and then brush. After a couple of minutes he usually stops trying to escape and relaxes like he does when I'm petting him. I think...

    Indoor Bunny problems

Spaying may help with litter box training. Does she have free range of the whole house? You may want to just make a bunny-proof area with a litter box in it and lots of toys. I put hay nearmy bunny's litter box so that he goes in there to eat it. If she starts using the litter box, maybe add a...

    New to rabbits...question about food

I know there is a lot of food information, but from what I've read, the general consensus seems to be rabbit pellets with no "treats" in them are best. Also, for bunnies under 6 months old, alfalfa based pellets and then switching to a timothy based pellet as the grow older.

Baxter! & Babs: A Dating Tail

juliew19673 wrote: I'm not sure what the answer is. :?My Basil went almost a year without biting anyone and then bit me and my son within a couple of weeks of each other. The only common thing we could think of is that we both came into his area from swimming and were wet. I think that since...

Another issue with my white dwarf

I would give him more time to heal. While he is healing, I would not introduce any changes that might stress him out. When he starts acting a little more like himself when he is out, then you can start thinking about bonding again. However, you may want to wait until your new rabbit is fixed...

    Are head tilts permanent?

I don't have experience with head tilt but it concerns me that you said your vet said he was a lost cause. I've read of many cases of head tilt resolving or improving and even with it, bunnies can have great lives. I think I would look into finding another vet that might have more rabbit experience.

Lost Bunny to GI Stasis or Blockage

I too have lost a bunny due to probable GI stasis. Penny had GI stasis issues every few months and we had done all the things you mentioned - reglan, simethicone, sub-q fluids, critical care, etc. and got her through each one. The last time she had it, she didn't recover even with all that care...

Hi, my name is buba and i'm a bananaholic.

Hi, my name is Basil and I'm a bananaholic too.:biggrin2: You had better make sure your fingers are out of the way, cuz when I smell banana, I go crazy! I'm slightly embarassed to say that I act as though I haven't seen food in days when there is a banana near me. Lucky for me, my bunny slave...

    Need some help/advice

Digging is very normal rabbit behaviour. You may want to get a litter box with a grid that sits over the litter. There are some that come that way in the pet store or I've heard of people making their own. Also, you might want to give her something else to dig in, like a cardboard box full of...

    Anyone do smoothies?

Ditto on the frozen fruit idea. I've even bought frozen fruit blends and used them. I often skip the ice completely. OftenI add plain greek lowfat yogurt which is has a higher protein content and less sugar than regular yogurt. We have a Tropical Smoothie Cafe near us and I've recreated some...

    Do rabbits need ramps?

Basil is about a 3lb mini rex and he's never had a ramp. I think the first level of his cage is about 12 inches off the floor and he has no problem with it. I had a smaller box there to use as a step but he never did and spent all his time pushing the box out of the way or chewing on it. I would...

Whats your buns fav. Toy & Treat?

Treats - banana and cilantro - although cilantro is more of his regular diet as he gets some every day. Also loves dried papaya but I'm out right now. Toys - Basil loves his long cardboard tube that we got from home depot (it's actually a form for cement but don't tell him cuz it's his...

    I'm getting married!

Congratulations! :toast: For me, the wedding was about celebrating our day with family and friends and we planned it that way. We chose a pretty traditional wedding because that's what many friends and family expected but we also did things that we liked. I guess if I had any piece of...

    Its been a while.

Maybe he is nipping to get attention. My rabbit used to do that more and still does it to my kids and my husband. I've tried a few different things with him. A loud no and I move away and turn my back and ignore him for a few minutes. I've also heard that holding their head down gently so that...
