    kidney disease/diabetes in rabbits

After our male bunny passed away from most likely a genetic condition (he was the last one alive out of his entire litter at the age of 1.5) we decided we were going to stick with one bunny, our female(S) Rorschach. however, even though they weren't bonded, she was super mopey. The pet rescue I...

    safe, waterproof flooring

We lost our male bun a few months ago, we weren't going to get another bun because taking care of two cages and the common area was too much for my BF (bad knees) and I'm really allergic to the bunnies so can't do too much where hair is getting kicked up. Any way, the rescue I foster for got in...

Timothy Hay vs Orchard grass hay

I have always assumed Orchard grass hay was better than timothy hay for feeding. My usual orchard grass supplier had a bad growing year and I've been having a heck of time finding any. I finally found a place but he called it "Western Orchard Grass" hay. Never heard that before, but I've heard...

Getting ready to let them loose (not sure if this is the right place)

In May we adopted a 12 week old male flemish as a companion for our 1 year old mostly american blue bunny (female/s). Since at least the second week we had hm, they have been in dog crates side by side and sharing out of cage space individually (In the morning, male bunny gets let out for a...

    New bun, pellets? alfalfa?

Against advice, we got a 10 week old flemish giant as a friend for our little over a year bun. his name is Chubs. I think we are going to wait to start bonding until after he is neutered (as soon as those nuggets drop, they're getting snipped). With our original bun, Rori, I was giving her...

Applying for a companion for Rorschach

A local rescue just got in a litter of flemish babies. We have decided Rori might enjoy a friend. Help me feel better about this. She has pretty much NEVER been around another bunny (hand raised from 9 days old). I know this will be a process. I think I just want to hear that the failure rate...

    Hay racks

so, Rori's first hay rack was a small metal cabinet organizer (like for holding flavor packets, such as taco flavoring, or kool-aid ), her next one was a metal cabinet organizer-exactly this one ( https://www.lowes.com/pd/Spectrum-Coated-Wire-Plastic-Bag-Holder/50192349). But she couldn't get...

    cord protectors

So I've been using the plastic cord protectors, but the she chews through them. I have to imagine there are metal ones out there, but have not been able to find any. has anyone come across any metal cord protectors? In the mean time I'm order two 100 foot rolls of two different sizes. At least...

    starting to rabbit proof

Bunny goes in for her spay tomorrow (nervous mom!) and I will be taking the time to start to bunny proof her room (in anticipation of adding a second bunny). There will be much work to do and actual free run of the room will still be a ways off. A couple things I'm thinking of: the trim in the...

to roam or not to roam? plus who's afraid of the dark

So, my boyfriend switched from night works to day works this week. It has been quite an adjustment for the bunny (she finally has a name-Rawrschach). When he was on night works she got lots of out of cage time, now, not as much. I try to wake up earlier in the morning when I am working day shift...

    chewing on clothes

How do I discourage this? She has cardboard, she has lava rocks, she has wood, she has hay and hay products, she has paper. I try telling her no, saying "ahhht", I've even gone so far as to blow in her face! after all of these I remind her she has more appropriate things to chew on. Some days...

    blanket play

Sorry, I seem to post my stuff as individual notes.Currently, bunny (yes, she is STILL, technically nameless) does not have free roam of her room. Work in progress. One thing still occupying the same room is my corn snake. I have a blanket I toss over the corn snakes cage when I feed her. When...

    wooden crates and willow baskets

Went to AC Moore today to get ideas for hay racks, came home with two, untreated, made in the USA wooden crates and a willow basket that appears to be untreated, but is made in China. I can post pictures if need be, but do you guys think these will be ok for my bun? Even if I don't use them for...

    her own room/litter box question

So I am lucky enough that we have an extra room that can belong to the bunny all on her own (hell, we still haven't agreed on a name for her, He says Floof. I don't really like that...). Since she is going to be a larger bunny, my idea is for the entire room to be hers. Currently it is carpeted...

    overweight?

this was sort of mentioned in passing on a different post I made, but how does one tell if a rabbit is getting fat? I know how to tell on pretty much any animal you show me, but bunnies. I know I have a growing girl, but I want to make sure she is growing in all the right ways, unlike me lol!

    toys, eventual size, food questions

My bunny is now 6 weeks old. She is a pistol! what sort of things can I give her to entertain herself with? I'm planning on buying a couple bird toys for her to destroy. I saw mention some where once of a "digging box", what would that be? She currently weighs a little over a pound, is there...
