    Aggresive lunging

Thanks Aki. I know very little about netherland dwarfs, but it sounds like a lot of her behaviors are breed related. I also realize that her time as a stray has had an impact on her behavior. I feel really lucky that she has not bitten anyone.I am just not used to having such a feisty bun, so...

    Aggresive lunging

Thanks for your response. She is certainly territorial about her cage, but also behaves "wild" or skittish when she is out of it. At first she would lung and scratch my hands even when I was just putting food in her enclosure. I was not trying to touch her or even get near her, just putting...

    Aggresive lunging

Hello, I am sure this has probably been asked a bunch of times, so sorry, just not a lot of time to read through old threads right now. My neighbors gave me a rabbit they found stray in our neighborhood. They tried to find an owner without success. I have two rabbits, so they gave her to me...

    Buns are moving outside :o(

Thank you all for your comments. The buns moved outside yesterday. I realize most everyone said wait until Spring, but it was not possible. My husband is doing a lot of work in the laundry room now, and there are exposed electrical wires, and other dangers. So it just was not safe for them in...

    Buns are moving outside :o(

Thank you everyone. I really appreciate your thoughts and advice. I am not sure when they will move outside, but don't think waiting until spring is really an option. My husband is very nice, and an animal lover, but he is really fed up with the situation. However, I will discuss the possibility...

    Buns are moving outside :o(

I am feeling guilty about our bunnies moving outside, but also feel it is out of my control. I am just posting here to get it off my chest, and get any thoughts or support anyone can offer. I understand that most participants on this forum have house rabbits, and I agree with that philosophy. At...

    Litter training advice please!

Hi hunnybunny63. Bob is doing good. He now has a little dutch rabbit wife we brought home from the local humane society. The two of them get along great and are mostly litter trained. They still live in the laundry room, but I only put them in the cage when we are having work done on the house...

Big Eaters? Normal for growing bunnies?

Even though I am not the original poster I appreciate all the great information about feeding here. Especially in regards to Flemish Giants. I must admit I have been feeling a bit guilty about giving my rabbits unlimited alfalfa based pellets. It is really an economic issue for me. The timothy...

Big Eaters? Normal for growing bunnies?

What size rabbits are they? Larger breeds will eat more of course. I think they sound normal though. Especially for 5 months old. I am not sure when to limit pellets, but depending on breed I think you could give them unlimited pellets until they are a year. I have a flemish giant and a dutch...

    Not Happy with the E-collar

I had the same issue with my bun. Bob did lick and pull open his suture sight twice, so the collar was neccessary. Was your bunny licking, or did the vet just give it to you as a preventative? If he has not been bothering the operation sight I would not use the collar. I have had three other...

Do I need a cage in the bunny room?

Thanks everyone. Currently the cage is folded up and not used. They do have a piece of cardboard flooring with their food, water, and litterbox on top. So far we have not had any territorial issues. Still not sure what we will do when it is time to renovate the laundry room, but we will still...

    Tail wagging

My little dutch bun is a tail wagger. It is usually a very fast little tail shake in her case. She is the first rabbit I have ever known who did this, and it is so cute. She does it quite a lot, but so far I have not really found any reasoning for it. She never really seems annoyed to me, so I...

    Welcome the new furbutt

Congrats on the new bun! He is adorable :)

mini lop biting and leaving pellets everywhere!

I agree that neutering will help. My rabbit was doing these exact same things until he was neutered. He does still tug on our pants with his teeth when he wants attention, but that is much nicer than the nipping. He also leaves a few poops here and there, but nothing like he was doing before.

    Handable?

I can only speak from my personal experience on this. I have a flemish giant who hates being picked up or held. He loves being petted, but only while he is on the ground. I have learned to handle him when I need to, and generally think of him as easy to handle. I have no trouble getting him in a...

    Considering getting another rabbit

I agree with others that you should try her on some bunny dates at the shelter. Also, I agree that she is more likely to get along with a male than another female. Her reaction on the dates will give you a good idea of wheather or not she would like a companion. It has been almost two weeks...

    Angora rabbits and infant/child adoption

It is really up to you what you think you can handle. If you are super overwhelmed by the idea of two rabbits and a baby you can hold off on getting the angora. I do not have experience with angoras, but I do have two rabbits and two small children. I also have other pets - a guinea pig and two...

Do I need a cage in the bunny room?

Rather than removing the cage, I actually had to expand it. We had to have some work done on the house, and the workers were in the laundry room a fair amount, so the buns had to be caged for the day. I added more nic pannels, so the cage is now about 42" x42". It is not at all big enough if I...

    My first bun!

Congratulations on your bunny, he is so adorable! The no poop or pee would really worry me. I am less expert on these type of health issues - so hopefully someone else will chime in. Personally if I did not see ANY poo or pee for 24hours I would take my bunny to the vet. If you are seeing a...

    Books on Rabbits---need recommendations

I would recommend House Rabbit Handbook by Marinell Harriman and A House Rabbit Primer by Lucile C. Moore. I have read both of these, and they were available at my local library, so you might check yours. I think these are great books if you are just keeping a rabbit as a pet. If you are looking...
