What's going on with my bunnies?

angieluv wrote I think it's Bicillin, but I'm not certain. It's an every-other-day injection that's given in the back of the neck. The vet tech told me that it's a 125,000 IU dose.

What's going on with my bunnies?

Mr. Bunny is a 3-year-old, neutered, 7 lb REW male. He suffers from Sebaceous Adenitis (which he's mostly gotten rid of since August) and a salivary gland infection (which he's currently on Penicillin injections for). Ms. Rabbit is a 1-year-old, spayed, 3 lb Mini Rex/dwarf mix female. She's had...

    Very large dewlap

Definitely try feeling for lumps. This is exactly what happened with one of my rabbits - one day, he suddenly seemed to have a huge dewlap, except it was on his chin. He ended up having an infection that needed antibiotics. Is she spayed? I've heard of unspayed female rabbits getting big...

    which litter is best?

I personally like Wood Stove Pellets. They're cheap ($5 for a 40 lb bag), and they take care of the pee smell very well - I only have to change the litter every 3-4 days. And plus, they're safe for bunnies to nibble on. I've seen them at Wal-Mart and various supermarkets.

    Best 3 rabbit combo?

It's usually easiest to bond a male to a female than a female to a female. Females tend to want to be the dominant bunny in a bonded pair/group, so it can be hard to bond multiple females.

    New To Bunny Diets.

They should get salad everyday. 1 to 1 1/2 cup per 5 lbs of bunny is a good amount. I agree, be very careful with the treats and pellets. It's really easy to overfeed them, especially if the bunny loves food. Also, if you ever introduce a new type of veggie or hay, take it really slowly...

    Whoever says Rabbits stink...

I agree - bunnies smell great! I love just sticking my nose in their necks and smelling them. They always smell so sweet and clean. This might sound a little strange, but I even love the smell of dirty bunny litter. :)

Has anyone else gone through this?

He is currently being given what I'm pretty sure is Bicillin. I'm sorry, maybe I didn't say it very clearly. He was prescribed 30 days of Penicillin, not 2.5 weeks of it. The vet isn't entirely sure of the diagnosis - he said it's impossible for him to be certain without removing the masses...

Bunny doesn't appear to close his eyes

Does he react to bright lights, or having something shaken in front of his eyes?

Has anyone else gone through this?

A little background: Last September, shortly after we got Ms. Rabbit, I noticed some lumps on Mr. Bunny's chin. He was also much sleepier than normal, and he didn't seem to have his regular appetite. I immediately got him to a good rabbit vet. He examined Mr. Bunny and checked his teeth, and...

    Quick question about injections

I believe that it's Bicillin, but I'm not quite sure. Yes, the vet showed me how to check to see if it was in a blood vessel first - the strange thing is, I didn't get any blood when I did that tonight.

    Quick question about injections

(Hopefully, this is the right forum for this type of question...) My rabbit Mr. Bunny is on every-other-day Penicillin injections for a salivary gland infection. He's had 7 shots so far. The vet instructed me to give the shot into the skin between the shoulder blades. Well, tonight, after...

    SO MANY BUNNY PROBLEMS

If there's any hay dust or dirty litter around, that's probably why he has a little extra snot. One of my rabbits has always had this a little bit - his nose gets a little crusty any time I don't clean up for a while. Try cleaning his cage more often. You might be able to stop the wire chewing...

    Possible Rash?

She might have a burst abscess. I'm not quite sure if that would cause a rash, though. Has she had any wounds or large lumps on her lately? Do you have any photos?

    Bonding my Bunny!

I'd strongly suggest getting both bunnies fixed before trying to bond them. It can certainly work if just one bunny is fixed, but they'll probably bond much faster if they're both fixed - that way, the unfixed one won't just be worried about mating with the other rabbit. I recently bonded my...

    Pink Urine

I agree, it sounds like she needs to see a vet ASAP. There's a lot of things that can cause her symptoms, so it's best to just get her checked out.

Hello! My bunnies and I are new here

Hello! My name is Mame, and I'm new here. I live in the mountains of Colorado. I have two rabbits: Mr. Bunny, a 3-year-old albino and Ms. Rabbit, a tiny 1-year-old agouti tipped Mini Rex/dwarf mix. Both bunnies are spayed/neutered, and they are bonded. I've been a member of a few rabbit forums...
