    Apartment Rabbits

I live in a 1 bedroom and have a 4 lb bunny who free roams when I'm home. He's quite well behaved so he free roams even when I'm asleep (although he usually chooses to sleep in bed with me). When I'm not going to be home for a while I usually restrict him to the kitchen or the bedroom using an...

    Watery eyes

@ LakeCondo, Thanks for the suggestion, but it rarely gets cool enough to use a window fan in Kapolei. Certainly not this time of year (at 2AM it's still over 80 degrees). @ Nancy, Zoomer doesn't like Orchard grass. He's picky. He'll only eat Timothy hay and Meadow hay. Could be the dust...

    Watery eyes

Location: Kapolei, Hawaii Breed: Mixed (likely part Himalayan, and the rest ??) Age: 2 to 2.5 years old (not sure of exact age, he was a stray I adopted) Weight: 4.5 lbs Sex: Male (neutered) Lately the Zoomer has had watery eyes. He doesn't seem to be in any distress, I can rub his face...

Tippy's gonna get an NIC cage!

Get the panels at K-Mart, not Target. The K-Mart ones all have 1.5" holes.

    Housing Questions...?

That's a tough call. X-Pens are great. They are sturdy, simple, and can be easily folded and taken outside if you want to give your bunn some outside time. NIC cages, on the other hand, can be much more elaborate, with multiple levels, but are a LOT more work. If you decide to go with a NIC...

    Where to buy

Look at the Midwest brand X-Pens from amazon.com. They should be much cheaper than anything you would find @ Petco or Petsmart. And they ship for free. When I first got the Zoomer I borrowed a 30 inch from a friend, and he jumped out of that easily. So I bought a 36 inch, and that has worked...

    Bunny Garden & Shelter!

If you are worried about snakes or other wild animals, you could make the run enclosure out of a finer mesh. Something like hardware cloth with 1/4th inch holes should be fine enough for all but insects. For bugs you could treat the area around the outside of the run to minimize contact. If...

Best site to buy a cage online?

I use an Exercise Pen (aka, Ex-Pen or X-Pen) I got from Amazon, and they shipped it free to Hawaii (which surprised me, considering it's a heavy item). Midwest 36" Exercise pen with door. You can easily configure it to different shapes to fit your needs, and if you want to give the bunns...

    traction ideas for nic cage

I use and old batch mat, and the cheap carpet you can get by the foot off a roll. If you are concerned about chewing, you can use cardboard, or get some of those woven hay mats.

    A lot of questions

1- Potty training, when and how to start ASAP. Bunnies will usually choose a particular corner to "go" in, and use that spot as their toilet. Once that is established, put a litter box there, and put some of their poop, and maybe even pee soaked paper (or whatever is lining the cage) in there...

Can they walk on hardwood floors?

Zoomer doesn't mind walking on hardwood, ceramic tile, linoleum or other "slippery" surfaces, but he is cautious and doesn't binky or run around as much. Unless you shake a treat container and call him. Then he'll come flying around the corner with his rear end swinging out, scampering furiously...

    Hayrack?

ZRabbits wrote: I used to just put it in a big ceramic bowl. But the Zoomer would dig it all out, spread it around the floor and pick out the "good" pieces. LOL! He's a hay connoisseur.

    Hayrack?

I made a couple of hay racks out of empty Eggo boxes. Here's the one in the kitchen: And the one in the bedroom. I made a round hole in the kitchen one, and a flap door in the bedroom. I also have one of those rolly ball types in the litter box (you can see it on the right).

How to drive long distances with rabbits

My bunny is NOT happy in a carrier, even for short trips. He does not "feel comfortable" in the small space. He actually gets quite pissed at me when I take him somewhere in his carrier. Funny thing is, when I just leave it on the floor, he'll go into it on his own, although he never stays in...

how to introduce a new rabbit to a first one.

It also helps a LOT if they are opposite sex. Both males, or both females is harder. But is can be done if you are willing and patient.
