I was typing a note about the baby who needed tohave the placenta removed and I wrote about "vanodine" and it dawned onme that we have some breeders who might not have a list of things thatare recommended for them to keep on hand. I know there is probably alist in our Bunny101 thread - but I think for breeders - we often havedifferent needs and we have such a higher chance of an emergency comingup.

So can some experienced breeders share what they keep on hand?

Here is what I can remember right off the top of my head:

Vanodine (http://www.barbibrownsbunnies.com/fam30.htm)- I bought 4 ounces fromhttp://www.bunnyrabbit.comabout a year ago and just used the last of it recently. This time Ibought 8 ounces. I LOVE that stuff for disinfecting, etc. Its aconcentrated formula and you put X amount in Y amount of water and makeup the disinfectant based upon what you're using it for

VetRX nose drops
&
Rabbit Mycin nose drops

Nutrical
&
Critical Care

Ivomec (I used paste before but just bought a tiny bottle for $36 ofthe generic...should take 1 drop per pound of rabbit to treat them formites, etc - the bottle should do my 100+ rabbits)

Piperazine (Wazine wormer) - I use this for head tilt/wry neck per Barbi Brown's site

Tums - for expectant moms

Walmart children's allergy relief (antihistimine)

Walmart children's anti-diarrheal liquid (I think it is like Immodium AD but it might be like Kaopectate - I am not sure)

Walmart children's cherry aspirin

Bausch & Lomb Advanced Eye Relief Eye Wash

Terramycin powder

Electrolyte powder

Probiotic powder

Acid Pak 4-Way(http://www.bunnyrabbit.com) -just started using it for weaning and when on the road for shows)

KMR (kitten milk replacer)

I have a sulfa product for prevention of coccidia - I got it fromhttp://www.bunnyrabbit.com

triple antibiotic ointment (Walmart) - tube

Bag Balm (tin)

Baby food in 3-4 flavors (carrot, banana, banana mixed with somethingelse, and banana & berries which is a pinkish color and theylove)

canned pumpkin

pedialyte - I always try to have an unopened bottle around

Vitastress pellets (haven't used them yet) - http://www.bunnyrabbit.com

I want to find some jarred baby food that is spinach for the calcium tohave on hand in case a doe does have problems with labor....but Ihaven't found it locally...I saw it once but didn't pick it up and nowI can't find it again

I think that is it....

Anyone else want to share what you keep on hand for your rabbits?

Oh yeah - echinacea capsules - I swear by those...I mix them with baby food if I get someone who is sick..

Peg

P.S. Oops - forgot the PenG cream and the Pen G that I keep refrigerated for shots if needed...

Darn...some things I forgot...

Terramycin eye ointment (www.bunnyrabbit.com)

Barbi Brown's Bunny Blend Hay (it smells so good I could eat it) -

http://www.barbibrownsbunnies.com/pricelist.htm#Hay

I like the bunny blend but I've had other things of hay from her andthey loved it too. I use it for new mamas and babies and when we're onthe road or for anyone who I need to entice to eat something.

Simethecone for gas (baby gas meds)

Hairball remedy for cats (emergency for lionheads since they have so much hair)

vanilla - to flavor water

mint tea bags - to get them to drink

chocolate - for me as I deal with the stress

bumping for breeders who may have missed it earlier....or breeders who want to add anything....

Let's see...
I keep:
The antibotic ointment, I swear by Neosporin but you can use whatever.

Canned pumpkin
Gauze
Pedialyte
Terramyicin
Tums
All kinds of children's meds-I have human kids too! LOL

I'm sure there are other things too, I just can't think of them rightnow. BTW, Peg, what does the echinacea do for them? I hadn't heard ofthat.

Edit to add-I want to keep the Terramyicin eye ointment too, but I havea really hard time finding it around here! I tried ordering it from twodiferent catalogs, both were out of it, and none of the feed storesaround here carry it either.

I use generictriple antibiotic ointment instead.

You mean like the Neosporin? Or somethingspecifically for eyes? Cause I know the Neosporin says on the label NOTto put it in eyes.

Yes, like Neosporin. There have been acouple references to its use in the Domestic Rabbits magazine for bothcavies and rabbits. I've used it without any problems andit's far cheaper than terramycin eye ointment.

The ingredients of the Neosporin topical ointment and the Neosproinophthalmic (eye) ointmentare nearly identical (polymyxin B,bacitracin, neomycin and petroleum base) exceptthe eyeointment has more polymyxin B. The other ingredientsareidentical in amount.
