**" No, I think I understand what youare saying. If they adopt a cross-bred, it might encourage people tocross-breed. (or it could encourage them to adopt ;)) What I'msaying is, no one has suggested that a rescued rabbit mascot has to becross-bred "**

Hope you feel better :)

m.e., you just had to find a pretty Flemish doethat is already altered, didn't you? lol Good thing I don'tlive in CT or I'd be stalking that shelter. I hope she getsadopted out to a good home.

I give up.....I tried to post three times and it keeps disappearing intocyber space....I'll try again later

hi,

Stopping in real quick to put in my vote. FLEMISH FOR SURE! If you wantsome more pictures you can see my website atwww.freewebs.com/icrabbits/

By the way I say flemish for all the reasons, since they seem to fit them all!

My newbie opinion ... The more thought I give this, the more convinced I become that the mascot bunny SHOULD BE A MUTT! :):)

I cannot imagine some Knucklehead breeding mutts simply because of a picture.

However, a non specific breed (Mutt) might help to generalize rabbits as a whole, rather than an individual breed.

Assuming this were a dog thread, would it be reasonable to display aHusky? Reasonable yes, but more appropriate to show a sweet littlemutt.

I honestly think that every single one of your bunnies is by far moreesthetically pleasing than my Cheeto (I suspect a mutt), but its hispersonality that makes him so special. And as a very new bunny mama, Ithink I am a pretty good example of the stupid people who do notunderstand rabits and the assumptions that non-rabbit lovers have. Ihate to think of someone choosing a rabbit based on appearances alone!

If I were to have chosen a rabbit, I sure as heck wouldn't have picked my loveable dude. Thank goodness he picked me!

I am not suggesting by any means that he become the mascot; he doesn'tphyscially resemble any of the visual characteristics that I thinkwould give a good representation of all breeds.

Just my newbie opinion:)

It seems to methat most of members never knew a "mascot" bunny even existed until hisunfortunate passing. Therefore, perhaps there isn't a realunderstanding that what we are really talking about here is a bunnythat is someone's pet. A bunny that is loved by a family and a littlegirl. Not a bunny who has to be a "poster bunny" for a couple thousandforum members.

I'm sure this bunny will make someappearances in the Rabbits magazine and such, but it isn't like it willbe hopping down the red carpet at the Academy Awards being judged onit's personality traits andconformation!

It's very cool that Danielle happen toask for our opinion on what breed we thought the new mascot should be,but for us to take it so far as todueling about where the bunny should come from, andwhy it should be one breed and not another, seems a bit extreme to meand really takes the fun out of it. ;)

Just my opinion...

Well, I didn't realize this was a campaigneither. She asked for input, and people gave it. While I agree with allof the wonderful things being said (over and over) about FlemishGiants, it can't hurt to have a differing opinion ;) Everything Ipersonally said about a rescued rabbit had little to do with "image"and a lot to do with it being a family pet. I am certainly nottrying to convince or persuade anyone, but in my horribly biasedshelter volunteer opinion, "pound bunnies" get the shaft. They just do.

Have we forgotten that Cali herself was a rescued rabbit?

But like Pam said, whatever the decision, I look forward to an announcement and photos.

Well at least weare debating something worth whileinstead of something foolish and off thewall , Debate gives everyone anOprtunity to seehow others seethings, feel about things , etc , After all with out in putwhat would be the out put ? .

Thanks for Asking forOpinionsDaniel , Its good to see posative andnegitive responses .

Danielle had a pet rabbit hopping around her yard the other day. Shetried to catch it, but couldn't. She hasn't seen it since. If she hadcaught that rabbit, it would've been the new mascot.

The next mascot may be somebun that picks her instead of her pickingher/him. I do believe that Fate can play a part in these situations, and Danielle is quite open to that.

I can assure you, not a day goes by that Danielle and her family don'tthink about it. Her family is as excited, dare I say more than we are,to have a bunny back in their home.

She'll be the first and happiest to scream from the rooftops that there's a new baby in the family and what his/her name is.

That said: HURRY UP, DANIELLE! I can't stand waiting!

Isn't it funny how those things happen? Some things are justmeant to be, and we have to be patient and let the plot unfold.

Good Luck and Good Fortune Danielle! I think Carolyn is right-- it appears as though the forum mascot is looking for *you* LOL

When I was doing my research and following this forum, I wasthinking of a Holland Lop. I even had pictures of themon my computer screen.

But fate does happen. I just happened to bechecking up on some vets, thatPebblesa Netherland Dwarfwas recently fostered by a vet. Even thedoctor knew I would adopt her.

Rainbows! :D

Someone asked that I share two short stories. This is the first,

I was terribly ill with a really severe case of bronchitis. Itwas bordering on walking pneumonia. I was home alone and stayed inbed for the day. I woke up and was burning up with fever andwas really out of it.

I heard a strange noise and in my confusion couldn't place whatI was hearing nor did I even have the energy to invesetigate. Fiveminutes later I heard a weird thumping noise. Before I could attempt toget up, Apollo was on the bed and and on my lap.

He had literally broken the latch on his cage door. He figuredout how to get out. His cage door swings straight up but somehow hemanaged it.

He ran through rooms that were NOT bunny proofed at all. Henever messed with a single thing. HE came from his cage and found me.He'd never even been in that part of the house ever.

Some how he knew I was in trouble and found me. Thank God hedid. After a good long cuddle I escorted him back to his cage-which hedid without any objections. Called my husband and was rushed to thehospital. I was given some heavier meds and recovered within 6weeks.

In October I was ill with the worst case of flu I can everremember having. Apollo was out running around and being an Angel. Ifell asleep with him running around. I woke up two hours later to asweet white face sniffing my face. His whiskers tickled and woke me up.I took some Nyquil and fell back to sleep. But not before Apollostretched out beside me and fell asleep keeping me warm.

I woke up about 2 hours later to Apolo twitching. I thoughtseizure at first. Nope he was so comfortable and relaxed, he wasactually Dreaming. Kinda hard not to feel better with a gift like thatshared with ya.

Those are the stories. Tonight Apollo was mobbed by 6 childrenwho are t-ball age. All are petting him. At one point one little boyhas laid his head on Apollo, another is checking out his huge cottontail, annother is playing with his ears, another is playing with thosewhiskers and another is touching and amazed by his nose.

I took Apollo out of the stroller to show the kids how big hereally is. Apollo shows off by giving the kids two bunny leaps. Then heliterally turned into a fur puddle with ears as he let 7-8 5 year oldspet, rub, and prod him.

That is a shining example of the Flemish Giant breed.

Well, this is quite a revelation. I hadoriginally thought the vote would be for some sort of a lop earedrabbit. The call for Flemish is strong. There are two does in my areathat we hope are bred, and could, if all goes right, yield a goodcandidate.
I hope that one day this new mascot will walk down the internet redcarpet, we all work hard enough for this magazine and forum to behelpful to all that we all deserve an award. For some reason, I thoughtthat a Flemish Giant would be able to stand up to my two dogs and threecats. Then I have to think back at how Blue--a blue mini-rex, stood upwell to the menagerie, with one of the cats as his admirer.
Yes, when the time is right and the eyes reveal that we've found him or her is when it will happen. One can't rush these things.
When it's time to sound the trumpets will be a glorious day. In themeantime, we are concerned about that loose domestic rabbit that seemsto roam the neighborhood, and probably not for much longer consideringall the cats that would like to get to know him better.
