I was looking on a rabbit breeds website, and was looking up the different rabbits that I've never heard of. Two of them were from Egypt and I couldn't find any info. But I found some that were ADORABLE!

This one is a Vienna:

This one is a Thuringer:

This one is a Rhinelander, and I thought he was GORGEOUS!:

This one is a Harlequin Magpie, he is awesome looking:

There were quite a few others ones on the list, but I couldn't find any pictures or much info on them.

Anyways, thought I'd share!

Cool!

The Blue Vienna was actually an accepted breed in the United States, but was dropped from the standard due to lack of interest. It weighed an average of 10 lbs. and had a mandolin body type. The are a very old breed, documented as early as the 1600's in Europe.

Thuringers are very similar to our Cinnamon breed.

The Rhinelanders are stunning! I judge them occasionally, but sadly, there are not many breeders in the US.

The Harle shown on the link is actually a Black Japanese Harlequin. Magpie Harlequins have a white base color in combination with black, blue, chocolate or lilac.

I have info on some of the other rare breeds if there are any you would like to know more about.

Pam, do you have any info on these breeds:

Baladi
Criollo
Giza
Husumer
Jamora
Japanese Dwarf

I couldn't find any information or pictures of them.

I'd love to find a Harlequin Magpie, they are just STUNNING!

I think the rarest in the US would be the "Lutino Dwarf" (pink eyed dilute). They were unknown in the US until Bob Whitman ofRare Bits and Pieces imported some breeding stock. Bob has had recent health problems, so no photos of the Lutinos are on his site :( But he has recently advertised some of the offspring for sale.http://www.rarebitsandpieces.com/

There's another rabbit called a Sussex, but I haven't found one bit of information on it.

The Sussex is a more recent breed of rabbit developed by Judy Le Marchant of England. The breed was primarily developed from Californians and Lilacs and was accepted by the British Rabbit Council in 1991 in "Gold" and "Cream". They average 8 lbs. The BRC Standard for the Sussex: http://www.thebrc.org/suss.htm

The Baladi is an Egyptian breed that is recognized in black, red andwhiteand weighs approx. 6 lbs. More info and photos here:

The Giza White is also an Egyptian breed. It weighs approx. 5 pounds and is bred for both meat and milk.

Criollos are a smaller South American rabbit. They come in many different varieties.

The Husumers are an extinct breed that originated in Germany. They were white with some black spotting and had blue eyes.

The Jamora is also from Germany and is basically a harlequin colored Jersey Wooly.

Harlequin colored rabbits were once all known as "Japanese", so I'm assuming the Japanese Dwarf is a small Harlequin colored rabbit.

Here is a Magpie Harlequin:

Yup that harlequin is actually a black japanese, it's the same color as Zoey. Zoey just has poor markings.

A magpie is a black/chocolate/lilac/blue with white. For instance, Spice is a mismarked chocolate magpie harlequin.

Erm, English Spots are not that little! I think they are between 6 lbs and 8 lbs. But they are cute. I am more of a Harlequin and Tan type of person... and French Lops, LOL.

I have seen them, but they aren't for me! But everybody is different.

Re. English spots, I know they're not that little in general, but Elliot is small. I was surprised to see him next to his owner's other rabbits (the scale), and I asked her about his size. You can see them all on her Flickr photostream - she's got some great pics.

Elliot looks like a Mini Rex. Most certainly not an English Spot.

anyone here seen a belgian hare? they are my fave! rare bits and pieces also had those

Hares are very docile, elegant creatures. My son's doe is expecting her first litter today! (She was bred to a doe from England). Edit -- Duh! That is a typo -- She was bred to a BUCK from England LOL

They are only accepted in the roufus chestnut color in the US, but they actually do come in a rainbow of colors.
