Have you had a fecal test done? If not, get one done have it checked for e. coli and clostridium bacteria, as well as the coccidia parasite. You should get xrays done too. There may be something going on internally that only an xray will show. It would be best if they can do a conscious xray and not under general anesthesia, as a GA right now would be very risky in his state.
Do you have access to Oxbow Critical Care herbivore food, or Supreme Recovery food? If you don't I think you would be better off syringe feeding a pellet mush or plain canned pumpkin instead of an energy paste made for cats, that will probably just further upset his already compromised digestive system.
What medications was he given? Is he getting a pain medication and which one?
