So as you all know, I live in Arizona. I was a Clinton fan, I'm not going to lie. Not an Obama fan persay, but in my heart of hearts, I do agree with his views more than McCain's, so I voted Obama. McCain HAD ME, until he chose SARAH PALIN as his vice president. She is in my nightmares folks, I can't bank on that one becoming prez one day.

SO living in Arizona and watching CNN, it became clear very quickly who was going to win. Who am I to miss out on a once in a lifetime concession speech? My friend Jamie and I hightailed it down to Phoenix (about 20 min away from me) to get to the Biltmore hotel and see this go down in person.

I'll skip the details, but I was singing in my head "one of these things is not like the other..." as I stood online waiting to get in. These people were crazy, dressed from head to toe in McCain paraphernalia, and chanting Nobama as we waited to get in. I felt anxious and out of place, like a walking target.

By the time we get through the metal detectors and all the international media recording, McCain is ending his speech, and I can barely see him through a thin red veil covering the left side of the stage. I see Sarah Palin, who, in all honesty, I WANTED TO SEE HER.

He says good bye, everyone cheers, there is tears, there is booing, there is a lot going on. The crowd is enormous, there are people yelling about Socialist America, the orchestra is booming, the candidates have disappeared, and security is abound EVERYWHERE. There are snipers on the rooftops, media left and right, bright lights shining in my eyes, and the ominous music of a disappointing defeat blasting in my ears.

Jamie and I stayed put, hoping for a miracle or something. We sat in front of the fountain on the lawn and watched the crowd clear out, making idle chat as we waited to make a safe exit with minimal traffic exiting the parking lot.

There she was. Suddenly. Sarah Palin. Out and about fluttering like a social butterfly, greeting remaining VIP's and probably huge money-givers and thanking them for their support. Jamie and I looked at each other, and I knew what I had to do.

I got up and strode through the remaining people who seemed completely unaware of her presence, marched right up to her, big smile on my face and said GOVERNOR PALIN...WOW! My name is Tracy, and I have to tell you what a PLEASURE it is to meet you.

"Well hello, Tracy. It's wonderful to meet you, thank you for your undying support throughout this campaign, it was a toughie, but we made it thro----"

"OH NO, Governor Palin!" I laugh heartily at her assumption of support. "No no, Governor Palin. I don't support you! I just wanted to tell you that now that you aren't going to strip away my rights, I'm gonna go out and do the abortion dance because MAN I love that Roe v. Wade!"

In the background, you can hear Jamie shouting "DRILL BABY, DRILL! YOU BETCHA!"

Next thing I know, Sarah Palin is screaming for security, and Jamie and I are hauled out, have our ID's photocopied, and are told to never step foot near the Biltmore again or we will be arrested.

Note: I am pro choice. Not pro murder. Don't slam me for that. Slam me for hating Palin if you want, but it was just a line to show her my love and "undying support" :).

Totally. Worth. It.

Tracy

Awesome!! :biggrin2:

Well... not awesome you got in trouble of course, but I wish I could see the look on Palin's face. I'm sure it was priceless. :devil

OMG! I would love to have been right there with you!

I was hoping for Hillary also. I HATE Palin. GOOD FOR YOU..... and I am not really pro-abortion..... I just accept it is a part of some people's lives and beliefs.....

It makes me really sad that people can say they "hate" someone just because they have differing political beliefs than you. I strongly disagree with many politicians in this country but I would never be so outright hateful and disrespectful to another human being. I guess I was just raised to respect other people and to be proud of the fact that not everyone in America has the same beliefs and thats what makes our country great.

Thank you Haley for your comments. I was trying to not respond to this thread and yet I was telling my family about this - can you imagine if I did this to Joe Biden (went up to him and told him what I think of him??) and then put it out there on the forum? I'd be skewered for not being "tolerant" because I'm a "right-winger".

I'm sorry, but I really do hate that woman and most of what she represents. I would have had a harder time voting had I not had to deal with the fact she was on the ticket with McCain.

I think that these discussions need to end because it's not being taken in the light discussion really. It's not bothered me cause I read it and maybe comment and go on... I don't even think about it after that most of the time. For others, I think it's very personal.

I wouldn't really say much if you had done the same to Biden. I'd rather talk to someone and tell them what I thought of them - than to be fake and not. If they are in a political position, it's not disrespectful to tell them what you think of them. I'm just that way really.

McCain's group called me a couple of times.... and I flat told them... "I wouldn't vote for the Pope with her on the ticket."

Tracy, I gotta say that I love you. I seriously love you. I was in the same boat as you, I was considering McCain until he choose Palin and I researched her positions.

The news reported that she wanted to give a concession speech too but the McCain staffers denied her request. Thank goodness. I'm pretty sure it's unprecedented, and I also can't imagine kind words coming out of her mouth about Obama after ranting that he's a socialist and terrorist. Actually it sounds like she started the terrorist rant before the campaign was even set on it and before McCain ok'd it.

If we weren't worried about money because of my job situation (impending doom, plant closing), Planned Parenthood would have a bunch of my money in protest of Palin.

Haley and Peg- I won't say that I HATE hate Palin, but I have a visceral gut reaction to her. The things she says, the way she stirs up a crowd and doesn't seem to mind when they shout "terrorist" and "kill him" about the other candidate are, IMO, horrible. I've never felt this strongly about a politician before, but then again few experienced politicians would allow a crowd to get like that unless they were doing it on purpose. Then she rants about her 1st Amendment rights without even understanding what they are- she had it totally backwards. This is someone they want a heartbeat away from the presidency?

If she is the future of the Republican party (please no!), they'll probably never get another vote from me again.

WOW. I'm PMing Pipp and asking her to pull this thread now.

Didn't realize it would cause such tension, and now that some political beliefs are out in the open I feel like this is going to linger on the public forum as well.

Just take it with a grain of salt... I'm sure she did. Do you think she even batted an eyelash after we were gone? I'm sure we were the lighter side of what went on as far as political attacks on her went.

Here I was worrying that the abortion thing would offend people, and instead it's this.

Sorry folks.

Tracy

My thoughts are that I wasn't there so I can't tell you if it was disrespectful in public or not. Ican also say that she doesn't have any of my respect. As a woman, I honestly felt embarassed by her representation of us. That's only the beginning.

If you read my comments about McCain, you'll see that I do respect him very much and I thank him for his service. It's not about the party, it's about their choice for candidate.

Had I been there and had a chance to tell her, I would have said that I didn't vote for McCain because of her in large part. That I think she needs to educate herself on world matters before running for a public position that affects the entire country and world. I'd also have told her my thoughts on her past decisions and other things that I have concerns with.

One of the greatest rights we have as United States Citizens is the freedom to speech..... we can voice our views publicly. How we choose to do so is with limits but as long as someone isn't being illegal - go for it.

No one should feel bad for using that right.

Oh, and I pm'd pipp as well. I won't make the decision to pull this, but I think if it causes anyone to have hard feelings, maybe we should.

Personally, I'm not offended by anyone commenting. I just don't want anyone to feel upset or stressed by it.

I dont think it should be pulled, lets just try to end political discussions. Its just divisive- especially when its not agood debate about the issues.

I don't think respect or disrespect for politicians matters anywhere near as much as respecting the opinions of members of this forum.

And Peg, I'd certainly feel the same way if you trashed Biden or Obama or anyone else, that's your right, and I can't imagine the board reaction being any different to you than it was to Tracy.

No need to pull the thread, I'll just ask that people think before they post. This is a very non-judgmental board, please keep that in mind!

s

Angela,

I understand that gut reaction to her - I have felt that way about other politicians....and I especially feel that way about Obama.

But even though I can't stand him - I have got to say - that I am seriously hoping he does well as a President - and I pray for him daily (and not for his demise). I pray for him to have wisdom and make the right choices for our country.

I hate many of his beliefs and policies - but I don't hate him as a person.

On a different note - I don't see why this thread should be pulled...there was a very polite discussion going on I felt.

I was just pointing out that in the eyes of many forum members - had I done the exact same thing to Joe Biden (who I can't stand even more than Obama)- I think I would have been totally attacked.

Tracy - I would never attack you about your position on abortion. While I am pro-life, I am also honest enough to admit that I don't see Roe v. Wade ever being overturned (even if McCain had gotten into office). I just don't see our country overturning it...although I know many who would like the decision to go back to the individual states.

Anyway - just wanted to share that I do understand how you feel Angela....and while there are many things I like about Governor Palin - I do not hope she is the future of the Republican party. There are other people that I like a lot more....and that I'm hoping to see more of in the next four years.

I find American politics so interesting. Canadians are so middle of the road, and our politicians are the same.

Most Canadians love Barack Obama, but I think McCain was also a vast improvement over Bush. Too bad he chose Palin, I really think it hurt him. I enjoyed Palin as potential vice president because she was so easy to joke about (Tina Fey, Jon Stewart, etc.)

Does anyone even know who is the current prime minister of Canada? haha.

UK politicians are really dull too. :p I have no idea what the differences in each party is, all seem the same to me! People here seem to be happy that Obama won the US election. :)

Stephen Harper is the PM of Canada. :pNow whoour previous one was, I can't remember, lol. Harper got in when I became of legal voting age.

If I was able to vote in American elections, my choice was not a difficult one -- it would have been Obama hands down. He really seemed like the obvious choice for change. But really I am just glad the election over. All that's been on TV was election commercials, debates, and coverage for months on end (we got both the Canadian and US election stuff). I really got sick and tired of the campaigns trying to smear their competition. Really, if they stopped doing that I could be more inclined to listen and to actually vote but when they act so childish I just feel like tuning them out. Sometimes I just felt like screaming at them to get to the point of what they would do differently instead of blaming others for everything that's gone wrong.

Really, that's just my rant about politics, lol.
