Hello! Sorry to post this, but I just saw a post of someone's rabbit somewhere on facebook and I couldn't help but cry and then think that maybe I should do something!

I don't know who this guy is and the people who are commenting are telling him wild things to do.
So basically.. The guy said that his rabbit was fine about two months ago then the poor thing got .. Well, I don't even know what his condition is but this is what it looks like, these are some screenshots from the video the guy posted

This guy lives somewhere in my country as well -Iraq- and he's saying that where he is, the vets told him that there's no solution and that he should get rid of him and it's just breaking my heart so much..

The people in the comments are telling him to inject him with meds himself or to drench him in car oil and I just can't help but feel so bad for the poor thing.. Is there anything we can do to help the sweet little rabbit before it's too late..?

It looks either like sarcoptes mange or possibly treponematosis, I'm not exactly sure as it's difficult to tell from the photos you posted. Both diseases are relatively easy to treat if you have the proper medications. Mange is treated with ivermectin, 0.4mg per kg of body weight, 3 treatments 14 days apart. Treponematosis is treated with penicillin g procaine/benzathine injections, 42,000IU per kg of body weight, sub q injection 5-7 days apart, for 3 weeks. Penicillin is injection only. Rabbits should NEVER be given it orally.

This is only a guess based on limited information, so I could be wrong. These links have treatment and dosing information on both diseases.

Thank you so much! I'll look right into that.

If you were in UK, I would say it looks kinda like myxomatosis. His eyes and muzzle look a bit swollen? Hard to tell from the pictures, especially as on my phone. But don’t know if myxy occurs where you are?

I'm not a vet so I really don't know but as far as I know.. I've never really heard about diseases of rabbits that make them look this way.

That would be my best bet, and that would make sense why the vet is saying there is no hope as myxomatosis is usually fatal.

If it were myxo, he would be dead already, and, having lost 14 rabbits to Myxo, it doesn't really look like it. Ears woulkd be as swollen as the eyelids. Since there wouldn't be much to do in that case anyway I would stick to the advice in the first reply. Good luck.

In some cases symptoms can progress slowly and result in death many weeks later - most die within 12 days. There are degrees of severity. Like I say I may be wrong, but definitely looks like many of the myxy rabbits I’ve seen brought into vets. If it is myxy, kindest thing would be a PTS, that’s what I would do personally, but of course a photo isn’t sufficient to diagnose so the best this person can do is take the advice of a vet, even if that vet isn’t necessarily a rabbit expert.
