My 6ish (he's a rescue) year old male rabbit Alfie has had some sort of fluid coming out from his eye for the past 3 days. It looks to be a clear color, it's making the fur around his eye crusty and I haven't cleaned it yet because I'm anxious to make it worse. This is a photo from yesterday, today there's a bit more fluid but sort of the same. He isn't hesitating to open it or anything, he's acting completely fine and it doesn't seem to bother him. He's eating well, pooping and peeing fine, running around happily and other than his eye he's good as gold. I haven't seen this before with either of my two rabbits and i adopted them 3 years ago. Could someone please help!!

About Alfie for other info:
Male, 6 years, Seal Point x Mini Lop, Australia (Victoria), no other health or medical conditions, eats twice a day and drinks perfect from bowl, 2.5m by 2.5m housing, lives with a Female mini lop age 7 years.

Did your bunny have any bacterial episodes? like abcess?
don’t think so! again he’s a rescue so i’m not sure his history but he’s been a healthy little guy for the past 3 years with no issues. thank you for the reply!

ok...but if you are sure its not just goober please talk to your vet...they can often have bacterial eye infections

Hello!! Can I ask where abouts in Victoria you are?? I would be worried that it may be myxo
oh god i hope not!! i’m in melbourne. He’s not showing any other symptoms of myxo yet but i’m watching him carefully. i have to take my dog to the vet tomorrow for his paw so i’ll bring alfie with him and get him checked. they’re a vet that also has rabbit specialists so no worry about that. since it’s been about 3 days with his eye like that and his behaviour and eating habits haven’t changed at all i’m hoping that’s a good sign in regards to myxo. thank you!

yeah don’t think it’s just eye muck, he usually doesn’t get that though he is getting older and maybe that’s just an age thing. he will be 8 this year. i’ll take him to the vet tomorrow and get it checked. thanks!

Well, teary eyes aren't something rare.
Bactarial infection imo more likely wouldn't be just clear tear fluid.
Myxo comes with swellings of eye lids, ears, etc., wouldn't think so.
It could be an irritation of the eye, a blocked tear duct, a tooth problem like overgrowing roots, or a number of other things, so having the vet have a look is a good idea. Most likely you'll be given some eye drops to try out.

We are treating Dutchess for having eye fluid, with antibiotic drops. Vet thinks it may also be related to elongated tooth roots. Hope your bunny is all better soon!

just an update, i have both alfie and evie booked for the vet tomorrow to het his eye looked at and also a general check up. it’s looking a lot better! it’s clearing really well. nearly unnoticeable. he’s still acting completely fine and running around his house like a mad man. they’re getting vaxxed at the appt aswell so hopefully that all goes well!
