I'm still not sure if my bunny is a girl or a boy. Teddy really doesn't like to be held so it's hard to see. I wanted to know if you guys know any behavioral differences between the 2 genders. Teddy loves to dig and he/she doesn't like to be held. She's not that terretorial, but she does grunt when she's annoyed. Please help2

Digging it’s just a natural behavior for rabbits. I have two bucks that dosen’t dig but the first buck I ever owned was a master on digging. So you should just check the gender of your rabbit.

Maybe someone can help you [emoji4]

The most important thing about picking a rabbit up is to do it with confidence, if you apologize to the rabbit mentally it will struggle and fight. Watch some videos on how to do it right, practise with a stuffed toy, and be aware that it doesn't matter if the rabbit likes it or not, sometimes it's necessary and then it's better they are used to it, no matter if they like it. Start small, first just putting the hand under him, while petting, then a short lift, then picking up and putting to your chest, but let hop away then, and so on. Always give a treat afterwards.

To get some decent pictures of it's private parts to post here get help, quite likely you'll have not enough hands to get it done swiftly.

Only when they hit puberty there are subtle differences in behaviour, like the way they dig (males do short digging bursts here and there, kind of marking territory or leaving a mark, females dig tunnels or a whole warren a few times a year, then do very little digging for months. That's a tendency, not a 100% rule), but I only started to see that after years of breeding rabbits.

Hi, what is your rabbit's age? I am not a breeder only have 4 rabbits and two of them were sexed wrongly when I adopted them, they both were 8-9 weeks old then.

One was a girl I was told but when I saw him first with his 4 'sisters' I've noticed that his very brave and curious, came to me to explore etc. I had no experience and when I was told it's a girl I accepted it but in a few weeks it was obvious that he's a boy in fact.

The other one was a boy, I was told, but it's she in fact.

In my experience with two males and two females I can tell that both females love digging they both were digging their litter boxes I had to put screens over them to keep content in place, males are more tidy no digging (they like moving their furniture around though). I would say males are more curious more explorers and would start conversation first while females showing no initiative or even ignore other rabbit.

I am not an expert what I say is based only on my own observation I am sure you'll get more advice here.

Funny how you've seen a pattern with yours. All my rabbits have been so different. My most adventurous and outgoing rabbits were a particular female - the whitish one in my avatar was super curious and even would attack the running vacuum (and was very outgoing) -- and then an outgoing male I had at a different time.

Other than that, I've had a mix of quieter or more adventurous rabbits - both males and females. My current male (brown one in avatar) is very reserved.

The more rabbits I have, the more I see how unpredictable they can be. :D

I read online that female rabbits dig more. Is that true.

I have found that females tend to dig more, males do dig as well. Every rabbit has a different personality. Sometimes my male would dig at me if I was in his way. My female just loved to dig in her cage, the carpet my clothes, my blanket etc... you name, she digged it. She also loved to rearrange her area quite often. If you find the digging to be annoying you give your rabbit grassy mats or cardboard in the area where your rabbit is digging. Or if your rabbit is digging on you, you can place a grassy mat on you.

Usually my rabbits would get annoyed, when I went into their area or to rearrange things or if I was putting hay in there box. They would grunt, box, or lung. As I said, every rabbit has their own unique personality and they train their human.
