Who's your Vet? If they're rabbit-savvy, please list them in our Vet section!

We are starting the process of changing the format of the vet forum threads. We hope you will find them more organized. You can see examples of this new format in Illinois and Alabama:

http://rabbitsonline.net/view_topic.php?id=11599&forum_id=9
http://rabbitsonline.net/view_topic.php?id=11587&forum_id=9

It would be very much appreciated if you would look in your states thread and post any changes / comments / updates that you see fit. Thank you all for your help in improving our rabbit-savvy vet listings; we couldn't do it without you:).

Hi Mummel,

I just created a vet thread for Germany. Please feel free to post your vet's info there:D.

Here's the vet I took Maisie to today. They were really sweet, and the doctor was really knowledgable about bunnies, and gave me an information packet about bunnies just in case (which she should have, given Maisie's my first bun and I just brought her home in Feb...despite the enormous amount of info I've gained from THIS SITE :) ), so I totally recommend her. :)

It's Vanderhoof Veterinary Hospital
2235 N. Lake Avenue, Suite 101
Altadena, CA 91001
626-798-5901
Dr. Bronwyn Dawson

The front desk people were really sweet, too, and they even gave me a discount on the services! The exam was supposed to be $60, and they discounted it to $50 because they had to do x-rays and a couple of shots, so she knew it added up. :)

Great place!

Could we not start a thread for vets in the UK? Im sure this forum has loads of people from the UK and this sort of thread would be soooo useful?

(p.s. ignore this if there is already a thread):embarrassed::bunnydance:

This animal hospital is located in the Greater Philadelphia suburbs. Zeke and Misty see Dr. Peters for check-ups. Zeke was also neutered, and they both get their nails trimmed, here. I've had nothing but fabulous experiences with them. Everyone seems very knowledgeable, and very sweet and accomodating, as well. Highly recommended!

Ask for Mark Flann. Very good with rabbits and rodents. Costs ALOT but very good. Female neutering £70. Will do emergency home visits too but probably very very very expensive.

I was thinking about this a few days ago and realized we have more doctors for our pets than for ourselves!

We have a vet for the bunnies, pig, rat and dove. They are awesome (Avian and Exotics in Indianapolis)

We also have a vet for the horses

a chiropractor for the horses

a vet for the kitties and dogs

and

a vet for the sheep

That makes 5 vets, plus we have farriers for the horses too. :foreheadsmack:

HI BBB !!!!!!!!!

For those "uncountrified" peeps out there ....

far·ri·er [ fárree r ] (plural far·ri·ers)

noun

Definition:

somebody who shoes horses:a maker and fitter of horseshoes

:wave:Hi Jim!

Yes, that's a farrier. The cool thing about them is, they can actually fix issues with horse performance, and soundness sometimes. A good farrier can make such a difference in a horse's health. That's why I went ahead and mentioned them :)

It's really neat to watch farriers do their work. I've seen my aunt's farrier work on her horses twice. Although, it scares me when he uses the blowtorch on the hooves! And it stinks, too!

Ours don't do that much anymore here. I think with track horses and jumpers they might.

It is very cool :)

I love this woman. She handles Sunny with such ease and care.

I originally wanted to take Sunny to a vet, Dr. Wilkinson, who is the Dad of my daughter's friend...All of my pets in my lifetime have gone to him. He's so gentle and just lives for his patients. But, he said Dr Verhagen is better for Sunny as she has her own bunnies and specialises in them.

If you're ever in Northern Ont and need a good Doc for your baby....Definitely call Dr. Verhagen. (Please note though....She's very strict about keeping buns at a healthy weight. She's given me heck a couple of times!)

My vet is:

Ridgeway Veterinary Centre
47 The Ridgeway
Bedfordshire
MK45 1DJ
UK

My bunnies have all been spayed here, and my guinea pigs get theirclaws cut there too. It costs £5 for two of them to get themcut, so not expencive. I would do them myself if they didnthave jet black nails:?

But I go to a vet in Barton weekendsif its anemergency,as my regular vet isnt open weekends. Itsabout 20 minutes away from me.
We seem to always go to Barton though, as all my pets seem to get illweekends:XWhich ends up costing even more than a weekday. Sods law

LOL! I know what you mean, BBB. Here is the list of vets that myselfand my parents take our collection of animals to: For the rabbits, I goto Dr. Drake. My parents take their cats and dog to Dr. Unal forroutine shots, neuter/spay and the like. When they are sick, theyeither go to the Animal Medical Center, which is also where my DH and Itake our cats and dog, or to Clyde's Animal Clinic, they are the mostexpensive but also have the best equipment and expertise.

For check ups I bring Dusty to my regulardog/cat vet because they are inexpensive but if he was sick or therewas an emergency I would bring him to.
