I took my hamster to an Emergency Clinic for Animals here in Madison and they were very good with her (although she didn't make it). They did say they do rabbits. I have also been to Healthy Pet Veterinary clinic here in Madison (they're open on Saturdays I think) with a hamster and I really liked them, may take my rabbits to them sometime. If you think you need a rabbit specialist in off-hours I know the UW-Mad vet school does do off-hours consultation. You just call, a vet tech calls back to determine the severity, and they will have a specialist come in if you need them to. It can be expensive. It does sound like he needs to see a vet soon. Maybe someone is open on Sunday?

Julie came over and poked & prodded him. Still no eating or pooping. He made a tiny dribble of pee on the carpet. He did drink a good amount, though. He hasn't done that all day. Right now, he is bright-eyed and cuddled up next to me. When he isn't feeling well, he scrunches up in a corner with his hips/bum up in the air a little. Julie said it looks like gas. She didn't feel anything odd with his tummy. She is calling someone with some questions about the emergency vet in Milwaukee and calling me later on tonight.

One thing we thought of was the lettuce that I fed him the last few days. They were romaine hearts that were in a bag. I have never fed them this brand of lettuce before. Julie thought that maybe something is different about it and screwed with his tummy.

Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. I think I am going to be spending the night on the floor with him. :pray:

I am just so sick right now. I've been bawling my eyes out for the last hour. I cried on my way to work this morning. The nurse said that it looked like I had pink eye (it's been going around the nursing home...).

He may go to the vet tomorrow (or tonight). I am just so worried about taking him to a vet where he would have to stay overnight. I have always been terrified of having my animals die alone...

I have bunny-sitters lined up for the next two days while I am at work. Will is taking tomorrow and my mum offered to take him to the vet for me on Monday (if he's doing better by then). Regardless of going to the vet, she will be watching him on Monday.

Right now, he is laying under the blanket rack and gets up every so often to clean himself. I think when Will gets back from the store I will put Toby back up on the couch by me while we watch our movie. Will went to the store for some bunny greens (romaine and cilantro). He's also picking me up a lemon ice from Culver's...

I hope that Toby stays where he's at tonight... I don't want him to crash while I am asleep...

:pray: I'm so worried :(
I wonder if you got something bad in the lettuce? I am so funny about what I use cause I got moldy lettuce one time (it was moldy on the bottoms of the romaine)....

The hearts of romaine that I have bought (like from Sams club ) is not green enough

it seems to have the same qualaity as iceberg...
if he had a reaction from bad lettuceI think htat it would be diarrhea rather than whatever is going on..
I sure hope that the emergency vet in waukesha knows how to treat rabbits;
:pray::pray:

Well, we're all home, safe and sound. For $250, I learned how to give Toby sub-q fluids and give him medicine :p The vet thinks it's stasis or a blockage (same difference, huh?). She does not specialize in rabbits, but the main vet does, who wasn't there. Convenient. The little booger sat in my coat the whole time, snuggled up to me. After the exam, he DOVE back in the coat. After sub-q fluids (that I administered) he jumped back in my coat and gave me tons of bunny kisses. He ate all of the cilantro that I brought with me! Woohoo! No poops yet, but we're working on it.

OK, here's the technical stuff.
- 50ml sub-q fluids (2x per day)
- Metronidazole
- Enrofloxacin susp.
- Cisapride susp.

I am really tired and need some sleep before I wake up at 5:30 tomorrow for work.

ETA: Will yelled down the hall to let me know Toby's eating hay and pooping. Woohoo!

I'm so glad you have eating and pooping. I don't know how far you are, but in the future the Emergency Clinic for Animals will see rabbits (http://www.emergencyclinicforanimals.com/) and is here in Madison. They also work with wildlife (such as cottontails). They also have a satellite in Sun Prarie Urgent Care for Animals.

It's great that you've learned how to do sub-qs and meds.

I'll keep my fingers crossed...

Glad he is doing better.

We have poopage! He only left a dozen or so small, dark poops, but I'll take it! We were able to give him his sub-q fluids this morning with only one minor mishap - the needle slid out of place and I had to re-stick him :( Other than that, I hold the needle in place and hold the syringe tube while Will holds Toby in one arm and pushes the plunger with the other. We couldn't afford the expensive butterfly needles, so I had to get some standard ones (that I am worried he is going to kick-back and get stabbed)... He didn't fight much, so we're OK. :) He nibbled on hay and cilantro last night. I do more fluids and meds when I get home tonight...

But, he's OK for now. He's not out of the woods, but he's OK. :) Thank you, everyone, for your concerns. :)

Ha! I had to work this morning at 6:30! I was supposed to be there until 2:30, but I got off early. Woohoo! I took my ADHD medicine this morning, so I can't nap. :pssd:

That's great news!

Did you go to the one on Silver Spring? It is pretty ghetto if you don't take the interstates. I was there once before with Fey.

Come on, Toby!
