WONDERFUL IDEA! :DTo answer your questions: no, she's definitely not too old...and YES,it will help quite a lot with litter training and mood swings. :)YAY...wonderful thinking! :)

great-i'll look into that !! i have two other buns living outside, will it help her get along with them better? ithink they have territorial issues!!!!!!!! emma.lou

emma lou, I send you some pm's regarding your username. I reset it so it doesnt say "amp". You now have 3 user names on RO. which would you like to use?

I think spaying is a GREAT idea and what a responsible choice for a rabbit owner to make! Congratulations on thinking about what is best for her. It may cost you a bit of money now - but extend her life and your enjoyment of her in the long run.:bunnydance::bunnydance::bunnydance::bunnydance::bunnydance::bunnydance: I'm so happy for both you and her.

Hi Emma! How are you? :D
The others have made good points.
Spaying sounds like a good idea, especially in your situation. Spaying will help litter training VERY much. One of the reasons it can be difficult to litter train a rabbit is because of the hormonal "Need to mark territory" instinct.
Spaying will definitely help with the mood swings, especially when she's just entering the terrible teens. Rabbits get VERY hormonal and moody when they start entering the terrible teens! I know this because I just went through a terrible time with Pebbles during the terrible teens.
I'm looking into getting my girls, Poppy and Pebbles, spayed too. It will help them bond better, and eliminate the worry about uterine cancer for them.

Iforgot to comment on the spaying when I wrote my post above ;) I wanted to say I think it is a very mature decision to make. I know I was scared when I had my first rabbit neutered, but it was the best decision I ever made. Since then, I have had 3 males neutered and1 female spayed. It cost me a fair bit of money, but I know it was the right thing to do for them. If you want some more info, here's a great article that outlines the benefits (both behavior and health) on spaying/neutering:http://www.ontariorabbits.org/diet/behavinfo6.html Hope this helps!

Sorry everyone i know this is off topic but Im going to call Emma tommrow to tell her to come on c Because her Questions are being answerd...and im bored enyways...and dont worrie i wont tell her not to spay her bunny.........

another benefit that comes with spaying a rabbitis that it prevents a lot of health problems, like for example uterine cancer. its definitely a great idea. i got my male rabbit spayed when he was 4 months? maybe 5. well anyways he didnt have any hormonal issues at the time, but he definitely bonded to my family and i way better, and is actually more interested in ppl then he was. its definitely something to consider. you should also think about getting your other rabbits spayed/neutered if they arent already. they will bond way better, territorial issues may get better and their total behaviour will change without changing their personality ;)

I've heard all the good things about spaying and neutering, but are there any drawbacks?  The vet I take my bun to said not to neuter him unless he had severe behavioral problems.  <br>

Are you sure your vet is experienced wit hrabbits?  The majority of vets that treat cats and dogs don't know a thing about rabbits.  They're also more likely to have problems while doing surgeries on rabbits, which is probably why he is telling you not to neuter your rabbit.<br><br>The only drawback is the small risk that surgery poses.  While an unexperienced vet can be dangerous, a good rabbit vet rarely looses rabbits during spay or neuter surgeries.  Usually their success rate is over 99%.
Have you checked our rabbit savvy vet lists for someone near you?http://rabbitsonline.net/view_topic.php?id=11630&forum_id=9
If you can't find anybody there, you can also call shelters or rabbit rescues and ask who they recommend.

Thanks for the link.  My vet is on that list.  He's a bunny specialist who also treats other small animals, and has owned about adozen bunnies himself.  <br><br>I was just curious as to the drawbacks of neutering because I haven't seen anything mentioning them other than there is a small risk.
By the way, how much would it cost to have a bunny neutered?

All the vets in San Francisco charges around$300 (includes checkup) for spay/neuter!  Too much money!  Somehow the prices drop dramatically starting 30 milesout!  I found one for about $110...60 miles from San Francisco.
