Hello,
My brother's bun sitting for me and he noticed something that I've seen with Penny before but it never really struck me as odd until he mentioned how freakish it looks. When Penny breathes, most of the time she takes even breaths and her abdomen expands and contracts the way you would expect. Every 30 seconds or so (this is while she's lying down) you'll see this weird sort of spasm/movement in her belly area that literally looks like she has something swimming and snaking about, right beneath her skin. It causes her fur to do this really freaky looking rippling effect in a small area. It lasts for maybe 2-3 seconds, and then goes away. It repeats in a nearby area of her belly again after about another 30 seconds, but the rippling is not constantly in the same area, nor does the rippling look exactly the same each time (the way one would expect if this was part of breathing).
It's subtle but it does regularly happen. She does not appear to be in pain from this weird movement. I will say that Penny is constantly either eating in her litter box or lounging on her side. Rarely ever see her moving about, but thought it was either just her personality or that she had some past issue with her leg. BTW, she tested negative in a fecal exam from the very first vet visit. Some of you may recall, this is the same bunny who eats and drinks like there's no tomorrow and steals everybun else's food but has poopy butt (not diarrhea, but just a dirty tail) when she's fed veggies. For the amount she eats and her crazy appetite, she isn't fat at all. Actually quite lean, though not thin. I don't know if it's at all related or just a completely random thing.
Has anyone ever seen this sort of thing? :?
