Rabbits are very popular in the states (althoughnot often cared for as they should be), but good rabbit vets are muchharder to find. Treating pet rabbits is unfortunately arelatively new idea.

Let us know how the incisor removal goes! I wish vets usedthat option more in the US. It's a very common surgery in theUK so more vets are experienced with it. I do think it's abetter option when the incisors have to be trimmed frequently becausethe constant trimming can damage the tooth root which causes even moreproblems.

Well today was the day. I took snowball in at8am and picked her back up at 5 this evening. The vet thought all wentwell that he knew positively that he got tooth and growth tissue onbottom not so positive about top knows got all of tooth not sure abouttissue hard to tell hopes all is out.And that shewould cope just fine that she ate a little there. I paid $505 today forthe surgery with all going well (sure am glad no obvious problems cameup). He did not send her home with an antibiotic which I kinda thoughtwould be needed to help prevent infection since she will have holes inher mouth until it heals. I have not seen her eat any this evening sheis pretty mellow so I hope she does do well and pick her self up and gofor it (enjoy life again) over next few days. Will let youknow how it goes.

I am glad that Snowball had the surgery done andis doing alright. I will be going through this in a few weeks withBeau. I am up in the middle of the night worrying myself to death overit. I will most likely be taking him to Verona Wi to a dentist namedDr. Ganglor..he was recommended by George Flentke , head of the HouseRabbit Society in Wi. The Verona Animal Clinic near Madison alsohasa few other dentists doing rabbit teeth. It is a 2 hourdrive from here..I plan to take Babette (his bunny wife with him forsupport. I twill cost about $650-$750.00 to do this. My husband isextremely angry that I plan to go ahead with it and I am getting nosupport at all. I feel very sad. Beau is only 3yrsold and bonded..Howcan I put him down?? I am very very sad. Please let me know howSnowball is doing as I will need help myself in learning to care forBeau after his surgery. Best for both of you

Chloe, that's great that Snowball came throughokay! Are you syringing food for her or offering pellet mushto eat? She'll probably need that.

Angieluv, I'm really sorry your husband isn't being verysupportive. I'd do the exact same thing you are. Itseems a waste of a life to give up so soon. Can you pay forit on a payment plan or with Care Credit? Maybe it wouldn'tfeel like as much money to him if it was more spread out.

My husband wasn't to for it either he would jokeabout making rabbit stew instead but he didn't go against me or say noand accepted my decision so I am thankful for that. I have some stuffthat the other vet gave me when they was concerned about her weight(it's called critical care) that I guess could be given through asyringe. (The one they gave me didn't work syringe was toosmall). I just mix it with the pellet food and water. She hassome just pellets in with her to that are not soggy in case that's whatshe wants. She hasn't been interested in hay, might try againlater. I have seen her eat a little now so I will just keep an eye onher for now and resort to syringe later if becomes necessary. But Iimagine mouth probably uncomfortable for a few days even with the oncea day pain med they gave me to give her. Probably once she has a fewdays of healing she'll pick up on eating more. Good luck on Beaugetting treated sounds like you'll have specialist doing it so higherchance all will go well.

Glad to hear everything went well!

If the syringe they gave you is too small (im guessing its just 1cc)they have bigger ones you can ask for. My vet gives these out for free.Or, you can go to the store and buy a syringe for giving babies theirmeds. This works for me

Today Jim said that I have a choice of notkeeping Diamond (I'm fostering her and because of her beingneglected she is not good "Pet" material but she's OK with me because Iunderstand her background. or not having Beau's mouth done. I can'ttake Diamond to petco because she is too skittish ..I can't takeDiamond back to the shelter because She will not make it out. He feelsthat I have to many animals (true) but if pushed I will try to findother arrangements for Diamond..like maybe taking her to Dane Countywho have taken many of our bunnies recently. I am crying right now. Ifeel the feelings of ALL these bunnies and I didn't want to disruptDiamond as she is used to being here. I had planned to keep her beforeBeau had mouth problems.. I feel all messed up ..I think I will re-poston rescue.

Just wanted to give a update. Snowball is doingwell. I really haven't made adjustment to her diet she didn't like thatshe figured out on her own how to adjust in eating. At her two weekcheckup she looked good and hadn't lost any weight. She has anotherfollow up apt. on the 20th but I think all is well. The only change Ireally have noticed is she is not as friendly kinda fiesty now like sheis ticked off at me. Hopefully over time she becomes friendlyagain. And she doesn't really care where she goes to thebathroom anymore she wasn't perfect before yet but now it's kinda likescrew you and the litter box.

Aww she's probably just a little upset with you, thats all ;)

Glad to hear she's doing well! :happyday: Keep us posted..

Well her check up went well no signs of teethgrowing back. (Thank goodness) And she has not lost any weight sheweighs exactly what she did before so doing well adjusting. The vet.mentioned something I hadn't thought of though when I commented howmuch she has changed personality wise that I thought she might beticked off at me. He commented or she might be showing her true selfnow energetic and alittle fiesty that before she was in pain most thetime probably and just wanted your empathy and help now she's happy andmaybe showing her testiness alittle more. Of " I am in control now. "Better go hope the rest of you are all doing well and I do think ifpossible and you can afford the procedure that it was well worth it. Ido recommend looking around for someone willing to do it at betterprice though if at first told $1500 like I was that was not a optionfor me. The $500 was much better.
