Vinny is back at the vets today. His eye discharge worsened over the weekend and she changed his eye meds to Ciprofloxin on Monday. The discharge has improved slightly, but he is still not eating normally even after having the two teeth pulled almost two weeks ago. Our vet is suspicious something else is going on and is going to confer with another exotic specialist. Poor little guy picks up his hay and drops it. He is constantly moving his mouth and tongue. I am anxiously waiting for my phone call to see how is he is and what she has found.

Any ideas?

It may be still be the effects of having the teeth pulled.... my bun Beau had 6 molarspulled 2 weeks ago today and is still trying to recover from it.

he often makes a chewing motion with his mouth and he is still uncomfortable from the surgery.
Beau will never eat hay again as he has hadso many teeth out. It might be worth it to keepVinny on critical care which contains fiber.also you can give him pure pumpkin (also a lot of fiber)

Thanks!! How much pumpkin to you give?

I am giving him his Critical Care and he loves it, so that's not a problem. Do you think the eye discharge is still from his teeth?

I would start out with just a small amount ..very tiny to see if he get diarrhea like maybe a tsp
I really don't know if the eye is related to the teeth. sometimes tooth roots grow up in the face and affect the eyes but that would show up on an x-ray.

My vet is puzzled as she has gone over the xrays three times and they look good. I hope I have some answers today. It is so hard with these little rescued rabbits as we don't know their past and it usually has been one of neglect.

Thanks so much! I'll keep you posted.

Vinny is recovering today from having another tooth pulled yesterday. This seems a little harder for him than last time. The only thing she could find was another loose teeth. Our vet seems to think we'll get him turned around. We are just watching to see if we need to have any more teeth burred. His mouth really is a mess.

I am going to think positive about thislittle guy. I sure hope he perks up soon and starts eating on his own.

My beau had his teeth pulled 2 weeks ago and is still not normal but is geting there...

I hope this last surgery helps but he may be worse again before he is better as the surgery, anesthesia and invasiveness oftentimes affects input and output .

is he on pain meds? if not probably should be

you will most likely still need to syringe food and fluids for awhile

Vinny is on metacam, however I suggested to Liz that she ask our vet for something a little stronger for him.

Liz, you're doing a wonderful job taking care of our Vinny. We'll keep thinking positive, healing thoughts for the little fella.

Bunnylady2's internet is down this morning, so I will update everyone on Vinny.

I saw Vinny this morning went I stopped by to drop off a bag of apple-banana critical care for him (BTW...the buns loooove the apple-banana flavor - they gobble it down). Vinny was so much better this morning. He was alert and running around. Liz said that he had been eating (he ate a grape from my hand). She makes little "meatballs" out of the critical care and Vinny eats them right up. He also munched on a few pellets.

Please continue to keep Vinny in your thoughts as he continues to recover.

Our Vinny continues to recover! He is eating his pellets like he's never eaten before and even ate some salad this morning. I knew he was better when he did a small binky across the living room. That is a first for him since we rescued him over three weeks ago.

Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers. :)

While Vinny is much improved, we are still dealing with the eye discharge and some sneezing. We have switched from Baytril to Sulfatrim and have switched eye meds three times.

Our vet is puzzled and she said tonight he could have chronic snuffles or allergies. He is still not eating as he should, not from lack of appetite, but he still has problems chewing. He seems very happy inspite of all this. Our vet will confer with a specialist and get back to me in a few days. She's going to post his xrays as well in case she's missing something in regard to his teeth.

He is the sweetest boy, as I know slavetoabunny will agree, and I would love to seem him improve more.

I hope to have some answers soon.

Our sweet Vinny is definately a happy boy. It just may be that his eye discharge is a chronic problem. I hope we can stabilize him and find a special needs home.

Vinny is happier now than he has ever been. I can't believe the difference between the sad little bunny I first saw (before his first vet appointment) and the joyous bunny he is now.

I am still concerned with Vinny's eye discharge, although improved, his right eye stays weepy. We are still on meds.

Has anyone had any chronic eye discharge issues. I am still waiting to hear from our vet. I would appreciate any feed back.

Thanks!
