I am VERY worried about Rory. Background: almost 3 year old neutered Mini Lop male. Eats timothy hay, Zupreem Nature's Promise Timothy Pellets, and fresh greens and other veggies (about 3 times a week). At the moment he has a urinary tract infection (and possibly something else, refer to his other thread). He's been on Baytril for 9 days now. As far as I know, he has NOT eaten anything strange and is not shedding.
Water consumption: much less than normal
Appetite: he still has an appetite
Poop: less than normal
Pee: I don't know right now
He normally weighs about 3.75 pounds. When I pick him up, he feels like he weighs at least half a pound more than normal. His abdomen is fairly firm and feels larger than normal. When he came out to get some exercise, he still ran around and binkied, but is also laying down with his stomach pressed to the floor which makes me think he's in pain. In addition to that, when I sat down next to him to pet him (when he was lying like that), after about 30 seconds of petting he jumped up and lunged at me to bite. He stopped himself. Regardless, that is VERY unusual behavior for him- the one time he bit me was when he was jealous of another bunny. I think he's in pain. His skin is not tenting, which is good. He has not been grinding his teeth, which is good because that's what he usually does when he's unhappy (or I'm assuming in pain). I put my ear to his stomach for about 30 seconds and didn't hear anything, but when I massaged his belly I could feel some gurgling. I stopped massaging his belly because I was afraid to hurt him. I've been giving him 1 ml of simethicone every hour too.
He has been eating his hay, pellets, and romaine, and I tried to syringe him some water but he didn't want it. I also gave him Benebac. We just went to the store and brought home some mint tea and Pedialyte for him.
My friend has a rat rescue and Metacam on hand, as well as everything to give subcutaneous fluids. We want to drive over to her house to get some Metacam for him. Will Metacam be safe for him right now? How much should he get? And if we have to give him fluids, what size needle and how many CCs should he get?
Can I give him veggies? I have romaine, cilantro, parsley and cucumber. When Skyler had something similar, the vet said not to give him veggies because she didn't want his gut trying to digest veggies, but he's not drinking water. When Rory was sick back in April-May (he was suffering from stasis or near stasis and it took about a month to resolve completely), I gave him salads twice a day and I'm convinced it's what kept him from dying from dehydration because he wasn't drinking water then either.
Of course, our vet clinic is closed tomorrow (Saturday). The old clinic I took the bunnies to is opened tomorrow, which we plan to take him to, but chances are good that there will not be a vet experienced with bunnies there.
There IS an emergency clinic, but they are not experienced with bunnies at all and I'm afraid to bring him there.
Sorry if this is a bit disjointed, I'm really worried.
