Hello,

I noticed a bit of blood on Lulu's paw. When I picked her up to check it out the claw on the far right side of her foot was hanging a little bit. Its still attached, but seems to be broken about half way through.

I cleaned the blood off with some water and a tiny bit of mild soap. I put her back down and she seems to be hopping around just fine. However, ive noticed some pretty grumpy bunny expressions which makes me think she might not quite be herself.

I called a vet to ask about it. They said that I had to decide to bring her in on my own, but that they didnt think she would 'die or anything'. They said with dogs they usually take the nail off, wrap it, then give them some pain meds. I'm a fairly poor college student, and if I spend the 100+ dollars on a vet now that depletes some of the money I have saved to take them in if something really serious happens.

Do you guys think I should do anything in particular or take her to a vet?

If it hurts for her to hop, you don't want her to remain in pain for a long time. I doubt it'd cost $100, unless things are very expensive in your area. Is there a vet school near you, where it might be cheaper? One thing college students have is friends, would one or 2 help you trim her nails [with this one shorter than the others] until the area grows out. There are videos in the library about how to trim nails to learn how to hold them & how to know where the quick is, which you don't want to cut into. I wonder if her nails were too long & this is what caused the problem. Nails should be trimmed about every 2 months.

My rabbit's nail just snapped off today when she decided to jump around. It was bleeding for awhile and i did a cold water compress and she was licking it and it pretty much stopped. Two minutes later she got distracted or 'over it' and she's eating. Do i need to do anything else?
