my mini lop alfred passed away yesterday. he was 3 1/2 years old. he had been his normal, happy self & randomly yesterday he began acting strange & became lazy. i took him to the vet shortly after i had noticed. they examined him & said they had felt what seemed to be a hairball in his tummy & he was alittle dehydrated. they gave him some fluids & meds & i headed home. he didnt want to do anything besides sleep but couldnt seem to get comfortable. i tried offering him a few things but he wasnt interested. 3 hours later he passed. ive had rabbits die of "hairballs" before & they reacted nothing like alfred. the vet did an autopsy & said the only thing they found was a little ball of hair. he was always very healthy. im thinking it was a stroke but the vet doesnt know for sure. it just doesnt add up to me, he was fine & eating & being very playful up until right before i took him to the vet.
has anyone else ever lost a rabbit to a stroke? or delt with a "hairball" that took place & the rabbit was gone within 8 hours?
