Took Bon Bon to the vet. First time going to that vet. She is cheap but not that great. That's just my option. She said he's under weight and breathing fast. I think you are going to loose him. He was running around every where. Didn't look like he was going to die. She weighted him and he weights 2.6. Checked his lungs and she said she heard something . His eyes where stil red and a little swollen. She gave him a shot of antibiotics and sim baytril to take home. She didn't know about oxbow and said that I should feed him a mix of different brands. The ones with the fruit and colored pieces are the best. She also feeds hers crackers and mini wheats. She said I'm too picky. Im sorry I love my babies and I want the best for them. Is 2 pounds 6 oz ok for a 10 week old holland lop?
My buns often have excess cecotropes when I change pellets. I've found a brand I like now, so that doesn't happen anymore, but it's something to look into. Not sure if that's the usual reaction for a diet change, though.
Your bun isn't going to die from fast breathing and underweight. If his lungs are noisy, it could be something more serious. However, I'm not sure I would trust that vet with the diagnosis. After all, she feeds her buns CRACKERS! If you can, try to listen to the lungs yourself.
It is likely an allergy from hay, litter, or something else in the environment. It could be myxo, but it's probably not.
By the way, it's good to be "too picky" with rabbits.
He sounds like a pretty normal weight for a young bun. Her buns are probably just overweight, and that's what she thinks is normal.
Also, pellets are better for rabbits than the fruity colorful stuff, according to most reputable rabbit sites.
