So I know I have been gone a long time and this topic may have come and gone already but I thought I would mention something about it because it is bugging me.

I drove by Target to grab up by panels when I needed to create a cage for Sloane as I had gotten rid of all the old cubes we had from years ago. I never did locate them in any other store even though I had heard you could locate them at times in Home Depot and other locations...

When we went into Target we were able to find them but they are different.
They are now called:
RE- Room Essentials 6-cube wire organizer.
Here is the thing.
It didn't occur to me but really if you look, really look on the box it shows you that the panels have changed.
The "back ones" have much bigger "holes/squares".
Now my Sloane is tiny.
SO tiny that I think her head could actually fit through that larger square now.
I know there are other breeds of buns that come so small they could as well.
The original size of square are in the box as well, but its like you have to buy more now just to have to not deal with those other panels. ugh...
They cost more now too..
Used to be you could get the white box for 19.99 now it was 24.99 I think?
They don't seem as...sturdy made either. I don't know if that is good or bad as the boxes weren't as heavy to carry lol.

I need to check that out. I need to get some for my new guys and was thinking about going to the Home Depot / Lowes for them. Are you saying don't bother? Is there a place to buy them online that is better?

Vanessa

Hey Vanessa...

I just posted the picture of the difference...
I didn't actually notice the size difference till I was putting the cage together so I don't know how many per box they are. I just ripped them all open and took them out. For 3 boxes I have a total of 26 small squared ones and 40 large squared ones. (My daughter just counted them all up for me)
I can't say buy them or not. I can't say online is better or one store is the same over another. I just wanted to throw a heads up at least about Target and the change...
The picture on the box actually shows the the squares are different if you look. I didn't I just saw the cubes and a different name and thought oh okay and grabbed them.

Here is a link to Target - they are selling them cheaper online but I think then you would have shipping charges.
If you zoom in you would see the size difference maybe but not as easy.

I just bought the target cubes a few minutes before reading your post. I wish I had known this before I bought 3 boxes, but I should still have enough to make a nice sized cage. Also the larger ones could probably be used to secure a floor onto?

Yup old news.
Just shop at walmart. Target is a rip off any way ;)

A great reminder to always look at the product before you buy it.
These cubes are sold under many many brands and under many many names.
And maybe a reminder to people to keep their receipts so they can return incorrect product as well.

In November, I also went to get grids (for guinea pigs) and saw those useless ones at Target.

I ended up getting mine at Bed, Bath & Beyond since our Walmart doesn't carry them.

I've never been able to find them on hand in Walmart but as long as one doesn't need them right away, ship to store works great.

It looks like Kmart also currently has a 90 day free shipping trial. So that makes it cheaper too :)

Sloane has been trying to stick her head through even the small ones lol. Ugh, gonna need to order some & return what I have when new ones get here.

I'm yet to find any that are in Australia, or ship here for a reasonable price. :( It sucks! Good luck Orchid.
