Hi all

Well I have a quick question...Tiny started doing the circling the leg thing tonight. Then she proceded to try to rape the cat (he was not impressed!) Does this mean I should get her fixed soon?

She will be 5 months on the 18th of december.

Yup, sounds like bunny hormones to me!

Have you double checked Tiny's sex? This behaviour sounds more male to me though... If Tiny is getting sexually mature, and if Tiny is a boy, you should be able to find testicles.

Hi

I have double and triple checked and she is definetly a girl. Sooo that being said should I be making an appointment to get fixed...or should I wait awhile longer. She is not biting or anything...she just really likes my legs and the cat!! lol Tonight she was enjoying the comfort of a towel.

I had another female rabbit that did this but she was a lot older when I got her and I had her fixed and the behavior went away.

I am just worried about getting her spayed to soon.

It depends, I like to wait until they are about 6-8 months old, but do you have a good rabbit veterinarian in your area? If so, see what he/she thinks. But, I've generally heard 6-8 months. I had two babies together (girls) because they were just inseperable. Never fought, but got dang-near depressed when the other was away (I seperated them for a bit but put them back), but now, they are going around and humping each other, so it's time to seperate, but they never harm each other.
 
Thank you...actually that is my problem I am still in search of a good vet. I am going to have to travel to find one, the vets in my town won't spay a female rabbit, they say it is unnecessary and a major health risk. But I want to get it done because it is a major health risk not to. I love her so much I just want to do what is right for her. I wasn't sure if the teenage hormone serge was hard on them. I would like to wait til she is a little older myself just to give her a healther chance.

Also just wondering do all females get dewlap flaps? Does spaying lessen the size of the flap?

As far as the dewlap, my doe (unspayed because she is a brood rabbit) had a huge dew lap, and I noticed about a week ago, it shrunk in size, so I'm not sure that spaying would have anything to do it. I'm not sure that all does do! My Holland Lop doe doesn't, and she's five years old.

You are so right! It is a major health risk not to have them spayed. Yes, I'm a breeder but I strongly advocate the importance of spaying/neutering a rabbit. Check out the House Rabbit Society (just Google it), as they have a great list of rabbit vets. Good luck!

Hi

Thank you for taking the time to do that but none of the vets listed are in NB, Most of those would be a 3-4 day drive!! I am going to call the spca that is 1 hour away from me....they spay their rabbits and I was going to ask what vet they use.
