Hey there, first post on Rabbits Online!
just got a male dwarf rabbit (looks like a rex) a few days ago, and today we just noticed a hard lump on his back. Haven't got any idea what it is because it doesn't fit into any category we've seen on other websites. Took a few pictures to show, and hopefully get some answer's.

its hard and lumpy though, or does that happen when they shed?

A lump during a molt isn't normal, nope.

As per the 'READ ME FIRST' thread, can you post the basic info about the bunny?

What's his age? Breed? Weight?

ETA: Is it one big lump or a lumpy area? Are there defined edges or are they uneven? Is it hot to the touch? Does the skin look any different?

sas :?

Oh, and :welcome1 to RO! Can you put your location in your profile? THanks!

I just saw the second photo, it's a little more clear. Is the whole lump the size of a quarter or less? And has he been scratching it?

If it's just a small area like that and you're not seeing any pus or swelling and it's not hot, it could be that he has fur mites (very common, but not usually itchy enough to cause an abrasion) or a ringworm/fungus thing going on.

If it's more swelled than that, you may be looking at an abscess, which could be caused by a bite, scrape, piece of straw or something.

If you can take him to a bunny-savvy vet, a check up would be good regardless.

Here are the Library listings about abscesses:

Yep, what Sas said! If you can get a picture, that would help alot, but best to see a Rabbit Savvy Vet of course to see if it is an abscess.

Keep us posted, of course.
