Do you need a pedigree to show rabbits or can you show them without? Like if you know that the are purebred but, don't have a pedigree can you show it?

I believe you can still show the rabbit but you cant register it.

Registering it means sending in the pedigree and registering it with ARBA. You can still show it without a pedigree, but breeding is a different story. Plus if the need ever arises to sell it, then it might be hard because people don't know where exactly it came from.

So if I breed a pedigreed one with one that doesn't have the pedigree but is purebred, then the offspring would not have a complete pedigree? And it could not be registered?

You need to know the last 3 generations of bunnies to have it be considered a pedigree. Some shows you can show them without a pedigree some you can't. It just depends on the show.

That is correct - you would need a pedigree (for the offspring) that goes back 3 generations on each parent's side.

Rabbits do not need to be pedigreed to show at ARBA sanctioned shows in the U.S. Rabbits don't even need to be purebred. You can show anything in any class. As with purebreds, if they fit the standard and have no DQ's, they're placed.:)

Agreed, you do not need a pedigree to show a rabbit. You can enter any rabbit and it will be evaluated by a judge against the written Breed Standard (as defined by the American Rabbit Breeders Association). A pedigree defines the rabbits lineage going back 3 generations. It is required if you want to "register" your rabbit with the ARBA and if you want to "Grand Champion" your rabbit.

You can breed any rabbit without a pedigree, but without a pedigree, you can not prove it is a purebred (same breed throughout it's lineage, going back at least 3 generations). You can START your own pedigree by keeping track of the matings you do, but it will take until the 4th generation out of that rabbit to be considered "pedigreed", as long as all the rabbits on the pedigree are the same breed.
