Ever since our visit to the ophthamologist about a month ago, I have faithfully been administering Gingivere's eye drops. We started at 4x per day and have decreased to 3x. At this point, I see no change in the "growths", but of course am staying with it as the opth. did say it would take significant time to see any results if this did indeed help at all.

Well, mid-week I noticed that her left eye was watering quite profusely again (one of the symptoms that prompted me to go to the specialist again). The fur above her eye seemed wetly matted, so I knew she was fussing with it. There didn't appear to be any evidence of a scratch or anything, so I made an appt for today (Saturday).

It seemed to be good timing as the vet wanted to check her teeth this spring, too...probably for a filing or trim.

As of yesterday, the wet matted area has become a bald spot. It appears pink and irritated. As I have been, I continued to treat with Bag Balm.

I feel so badly for her. She is starting to hide when I come near the cage and has begun to fight the whole process of the drops. I could live with that fact if it weren't for the obvious irritation the watering is causing. I really think the drops are the appropriate first course of action. The opth said that surgery would not guarantee that the lesions would not regrow...and I don't really want to expose her to anesthesia if not necessary.

Oh, and she HATES car rides and the carrier...so that just adds to the trauma of a vet visit.

Please send healing vibes, prayers, and good thoughts our way as we take off to the appointment.

Poor bun.. Its starting to sound like the "irratation" is becoming more of a problem than the surgery.. As we have all heard with buns, when they get a 1st problem, when it goes on it causes 2ndorary problems and do not wish to see this with yours.

Perhaps a 2nd visit to the Opthamologist might be in order to see where things stand now..

Feel for you both - and update on how its going.

Thanks for the well wishes, all!

Gingi is her usual obnoxious self. But she was very cooperative for our vet. She really likes him (though the time in the crate and the car ride tick her off).

He trimmed her back lower teeth. That went quickly and easily. And he gave me an ointment to use on the skin above her eye.

She's only been using the drops for a month, and the opth said that we would be looking at 8-12 weeks before seeing any significant change...if it helped at all. So, I realize that patience is key here.

If it weren't for the watering, I don't think Gingi would really be affected by this at all. And that is intermittent...it's just that when they do water it seems so profuse.

We will hang in there another month or two, continue with the drops, keep her claws short so she doesn't do damage scratching herself, and just keep an eye on the situation.

I really don't know how I'll proceed this summer if the drops don't make a difference. The whole surgery idea - I go back and forth with that - mostly because it may also be unsuccessful.

I hate being patient. Like all bunny slaves, I just want her problems to go away so she can have a perfectly healthy life. Thankfully the other 3 buns are all well now, so that helps.
