Hi everyone,

I don't think I have mentionned this before but in the near future (well within 5 years) if everything works out, I was planning on buying a house with a few acres in the countryside.

I am dreaming of running a kind of adoption centre/refuge for bunnies on my property if it would be permitted. It would be non-profit (all profits would go to vet bills, food, etc) and would aim to rehome rabbits that otherwise would most likely not be rehomed. These would include rabbits that need to get over traumatic event, aggressive rabbits, disabled rabbits, and whatever other rabbits may be put down due to lack of space. Those that would not be able to be rehomed would just stay with me.

I was wondering, what sort of training would be useful? I mean, I am looking into an Animal Care Specialist course that is being offered through distance-learning but since I only want to focus on rabbits, I doubt I would learn enough about them from this course? It's especially hard here in Montreal to find anything to do with rabbits which is also one of the reasons I want to open the shelter. The SPCA here had a ton of rabbits abadonned and it gets worse each year and unfortunately, the amount coming in exceeds the amount being adopted and they are not a no-kill shelter :(Does anyone have experience with a vet teaching them things? I'd really like to study up on them so at least I'd have some better knowledge going in... Lol.

Obviously,I don't know if it really will happen but I am working towards it a little more each day. I had wanted to be a vet ever since I was a little girl but I was not prepared for the studies :pI think running this shelter would kinda fulfill that dream in a way because I would be working with animals and I have a real passion for rabbits. Everyone tells me that that is what they see me in.

So any ideas? Are there any really good books out there you could refer me to? I'm scared of books that could have all the wrong information :pI especially need to learn about diseases and which are contagious etc.... Oh and I may be school smart but I'm not a scientist so terms that are understandable to the normal person would be great :biggrin2:
