my rabbit has goopy eyes

My rabbits eye is red and it has crusty stuff all around it. what could this be

here is a pic do you think i need to take him to the vet or is there something i could do for him at home.

is he sneezing? got a snotty nose? could be pasteurella, you need to take him to the vet immediately, my rabbits have had this and its hard to treat and could kill them

no he has had it for a while now but he's behavior has been normal and he seems to be happy and eating normally. Everything is normal except his eye.

it is probably conjunctivits which is a bacterial infection which is contagious to other rabbits

This is not something that you can "let go "

Actually my husband and I once considered moving to SD andI think that the only exotics vet that I could find was in Rapid City

Idon't personally know anything about this clinic except they claim to treat rabbits

You could try to treat it with teramycin eye ointment from the feed store, but it looks pretty advanced so I'd like to have a vet look at it.

i put some antibiotic ointment around the eye. This seems to be working great, Swelling and redness has gone done a ton.
