FINALLY managed to get pictures of some of my rabbit-kids online. :) Wanted to ask...my two other Torts are very clearly black-and-orange in appearance, but the new baby is distinctly blue-and-orange. Is it just a fluke of her color or is she some kind of dilute?

Here she is:

These two are my other Torts...the first is my wonderful doe, the second is our skittish buck:

And just because I wanna share, this is the lovely black doe that was purchased with the Tort baby. :)

I do believe that they both have the same sire, if knowing what colors their sire and dams were would help with identifying why my baby Tort looks so different, let me know and I'll bust out their paperwork. :) Thanks in advance!

-whew!- Now I have a new avatar, too. Such a cute baby Tortie! :) I'm not biased or anything... ;)

Jameson and Dempsey look harlequin to me?

As far as the baby he looks black tort. You can tell by how dark the nose is. I think as he molts his hair will get darker

Here is a blue tort

Ah, OK! Thanks! :) The breeder of the two Rexes told me they were Tortoishell, I don't honestly know enough about colors to know the difference. :)

I've tried looking at a few color genetics sites for rabbits (I'm a whiz when it comes to horses, but rabbits and their colors confuse me) and they all presume that the reader knows what the different colors are, which makes it hard for someone who is just learning to follow. Is there a more basic, beginner-friendly page on this out there?

"You didnt get no pedigree's with them?"

Of course not. Jameson and Dempsey are technically Mini Rex crosses. They aren't purebred and as such, no pedigrees. They were bought to improve my own line of rabbits, in color and coat quality. :) I do have pedigrees and paperwork for both the babies, they are real Mini Rexes.

Also, just to make it clear, my two lines will never cross. ;) My purebred and crossed lines will not have anything in common, lineage-wise.

I don't have the web address right now but I think Pam's website tells the tale the best.

Thank you, Grace! :) I've been doing my best to learn...but some of it makes no sense. Like the "Color Saturation" locus, I just can't find anything to tell me how the incomplete/co-dominant Chinchilla colors work, if they express with each other or only themselves, and the ranking of dominance in that locus makes my head spin. Even the "rabbit genetics for beginners" on some breeders' sites seem to assume I already know what every color is. Very disheartening!!!

Kyle, it can be enough to make your head spin, I agree. It sounds like you're getting into some pretty heavy stuff right from the beginning though. Why don't you just focus on learning how to identify every color in Mini Rex and visualizing them in your head? That way with enough practice when you see the words "Siamese Sable Mini Rex" you can immediately pull up a mental picture of what that looks like. I promise, it'll help a lot.

Here are some resources you might find helpful.

I used this one when I was first getting into my MR:

This is a great reference page for the shadeds, like your tort.

I looked at the pictures of Jameson and Dempsey again. What are they crossed with--full Rex? Because the MR fur is very recessive and usually disappears when mixed with other breeds. I can understand Misty's confusion because I didn't think that they were mixes offhand either.
