Marigolds

Hey!
I was planing on planting Marigolds for the bunnies to eat. But now I found them on an unsafe list as they can cause skin irritations. So I'm not sure what to do!

I think they are a flower that is used to plant in borders to keep rabbits away...

This question seems to come up often. As I posted in a previous thread, it all depends on what marigolds you have.
If it's the "pot marigolds" (calendula officinalis), they are perfectly safe.

Some of the other kinds of flowers that are also called marigolds, but are from a different family (Tagetes spp.)are the ones that may cause skin irritations. Although some of them are also culinary herbs.

Note that the marigolds mentioned in the medirabbit list are the Tagetes species, NOT the Calendula species.

The Tagetes spp. marigolds are often called "African Marigolds" or "French Marigolds."
These are the ones on the "no" list.
