Hi our five year old bunny Rose just had surgery today to remove a large lump from her chest, I also asked them to spay her while she was under anesthesia because I read that rabbits are p err on to ovarian cancer. Have any of you had this surgery done for your rabbit? Could you let me know what to expect? She is currently in her favorite comfort spot and had been there for hours. She did eat a piece of banana which was comforting. She has drank since the surgery. They did tell me they had to remove surrounding tissue and skin to ensure they remove all the mass. Well find out next week if it was malignant.

I haven't dealt with a mass before, but just with having a rabbit that's gone through surgery. Hopefully they have given you pain meds to give to her. That will help get her eating again more quickly. The anesthesia can also cause some nausea, so that can also affect the eating. Any leafy greens that you normally feed her, are one good way to help get her eating again. I've had rabbits that won't touch their pellets or hay, but would start eating some of their greens. You don't want her going too long without very much food, so just something to keep a close eye on, as well as messing with the incision. But hopefully your vet covered all this.

Thanks for your response, I did go get some organic dandelion leaves and she ate one like a champ! I can tell that she wants to move but is in pain. I meant to say in my earlier post that she has not drank. For now I'm satisfied that she ate a leaf at least there is some liquid in it. The vet did not give me pain meds. They told me they gave her two pain shots one was buprinex a type of morphine and the other was metacam and it should last for two days. I hope she feels a little better in the morning.

Rosie drank some water from a shallow dish this morning, ate a dandelion leaf with some lettuce, hobbled out for a moment to say hi and have me rub her head before retiring back to her spot. As if to say I'm ok, in a little pain, please leave me alone. Glad to see she still has her sassy attitude :)
