Hi guys, thankfully I haven't needed to post here for quite a while!!
I was away on holiday last week with a house sitter looking after my rabbits. When I came home I noticed Cleos eye was dark with a red tinge. I panicked and booked her a vet appointment with the unusual pet vets here in Perth. They specialise in pets like rabbits, birds, reptiles etc and are the only people I would trust.
As I suspected the front pocket of her eye is full of blood. They gave her a good check over and stained her eye to find no scratches or punctures to her cornea. Her eye pressure is normal and her teeth are good.
They basically said it may have been caused by a bump or a fall, in which case it will clear up itself with some meloxicam to take home. However, there is a small chance it is something more serious like glaucoma and that they can refer me to a specialist if need be.

I have attached a few photos though it's hard to pick up on camera. The white spot is just the light, it basically looks like a layer of blood covering her eye with a little bit of cloudiness.
The biggest problem I have is being able to afford to see the eye specialist. I have just been through a load of car troubles that has drained my bank account. I could look at getting a loan or something, but I would love for your opinions to help me make a decision.

I might also mention that her other eye is blue and perfectly fine. The eye with the blood is normally blue at the bottom but a dark grey colour up the top. Her eye was always like that so I assumed it was normal, but could this indicate a more serious problem?

It's not unusual for the dutch breed or vienna marked rabbits to have two-toned eyes, so it's highly unlikely it's anything to do with that.

I'm afraid I can't give any advice regarding the eye, the vet seems to know what they're talking about. If it's not something that's immediately a threat, you could just give it a bit of time to save up the money for seeing the eye specialist.

Thank you, that eases my mind a little!
The more I read about eye problems online the more I worry! I haven't had a good night's sleep since I noticed her eye. I think I'll just have to find the money and make the appointment so I can rest!

Well we have a specialist appointment in a few hours, fingers crossed I can afford the bill at the end and that she comes home with the best news possible

Hey, I see the Unusual Pet Vets too - glad they gave you good advice. :) I'd like to know how the specialist appointment went, too.

We still have no idea what has happened unfortunately :(
Everything at the back of her eye is fine and normal and her eye pressure is still normal. The blood has settled down the bottom and there is a small cluster of pale goo which is apparently caused by inflammation. Generally inflammation causes the pupil to shrink but instead her pupil is very dilated which is unusual. Inflammation also causes the iris to become sticky and it can velcro itself to the lens which can cause glaucoma. We have got her on meloxicam, anti inflammatory eye drops and an ointment that dilates the pupil to try to keep the iris moving and deter it from sticking. She was hesitant on the ointment as her pupil is already dilated but unfortunately if we use the ointment we might make it worse, if we don't it definitely will get worse so there isn't much else we can do. The injury itself isn't an issue, it will sort itself out, it's just that it is fairly likely it will cause glaucoma. We have another appointment in two weeks and we will just hope for the best.
