Lowell, Arkansas, ,
is no longer with us. upon rushin her off to the vet, later..I had to make the decision to put her to sleep, I was cryin like a baby right along with my daughter, losing Lolly was the second hit in two weeks, next to the wild little bunny dying. The vet told me that she had something wrong with her brain, and she was having a seizure. medication was an option, but he said the list was endless as to what could have caused her initial problem. I decided on a few factors on going this route.

1. she was young.... he said she was around 6-7 weeks. i understand that time spent shouldnt matter, but I just felt it was for the best.

2. upon my asking he said that she was probably in pain when the seizure occured and I didnt want to make her suffer again over and over when they would keep reoccuring.

3. I think prolonging her would have just made it harder on me and my daughter, we were SO incredibly close to her, "no one can even imagine" and it just breaks my heart so badly. we held her in our arms before the lady took her and told her we loved her.... the hardest part is always letting go. ! and wondering yet again should we replace her again yet a 3rd time in the hopes that this one will make it and have a great happy life. !

it was nice knowing that she went out with ALOT of love, but getting that adorable little sweet face out of my mind wont be easy. !

thanks for all the advice and prayers.

sadly, Denise.

I am so sorry for your loss. She was very young, but Im sure she knew how much you loved her in the short time she was in your care. You did the right thing by rushing her to the vet, and if he thought that was the best option to stop her from suffering, then you did the right thing.

You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Rest in peace little Lolly, you were loved and will be deeply missed.

I know its hard, but only you can know if you did the right thing. If you really believed that she was in pain and there was no hope for her to get better, than you did. I just hope youdidnt make your decision based on herage, or basedonwhat would be easiest for you.

I would contact the breeder you got her from and let her know. She needs to make sureshes keeping these babies withtheir mothers long enough. Im not sure if thatcouldve caused her sickness, but Im sure beingweaned too soon didnt help.

Oh no!! I'm so sorry.

I would advise to not get a bunny from the same breeder. But definitly let her know what happened and why you are not getting another rabbit from her.

What I would suggest, would be to look for a responsable breeder, who does not wean their babies before 8 weeks of age.

OR, find a rescue or look at your local animal shelter. Rescues often have babies, as a lot of people turn in pregnant rabbits. If you where closer, you could take one of my babies, they're three months old and very cute.

But the point is, find someone who is responsable with there bunnies.

It will mean the chance to enjoy your bunny, and have a wonderful long life together, and to show your daughter the joy in having a bunny.

Denise, I REALLY hope that you'll share your love with another bunny, you were really an awesome bunny mom.

Lolly was too young, she never should have been away from her mother that young, it really causes a lot of problems. I was afraid for her the minute I saw her. Itwould only have gotten worse. You did the right thing.

:bigtears:

But you've experienced 'bunny love' and you've recognized it as one of most wonderful things on the planet, and that makes you special. We really need people like you to be caretakers of these wonderful little creatures. It can be painful at times, as you well know, it can also bring tremendous joy -- for both you and another little bunny.

Please try again. And I'm so very very sorry for your loss.

:sad::rose:

We let Eric know, the guy my husband got her from.... he hasmany people take his rabbits and theyve all have done fine. so I do agree with the vet saying that something was wrong with her brain. Ijust dontunderstand how this all happened so suddenly last night, I just think that she would have shown signs if she was suffering the loss of her mommy, cause she was the most active lil thing ever, eating, pooping, playing.

..... can I ask what young babies would be missing from their mommies other than milk and the comfort of their mom @ 6-8 weeks ???, thats the age the vet placed herat.

Idont feel this isrelated to Lollys passing cause I dont think her brain would have started having problems from being away from her mom. or "gosh" I surely hope not.... I dont want anything added to theemotion Im already feeling. I just want to know for future reference.

anyhow.... I can question myself over and over, wondering why it happened, if I did the right thing and its just gonna eat me up worse.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

Mainly the problem with taking baby buns away from their moms too soon is that their digestive tract is more sensitive. I've never heard of it causing neurological problems, so I don't think that's what caused it.

and you know... I just read in the sick bunny area a topic from Redmanll34 about their bunny doing the shake, wobbling and having a head tilt...... due to an ear infection.

this vet better have been right about his diagnosis. !

other than the legs stiffening for a minute or so, she had the same symptoms.

You'll also see in the post where Redmansays: "The one thing that really bothers me is that (the vet)said it is discouraging that Paco (at) almost 4 months has an ear infection."

So atfour months,an ear infection is very serious and 'discouraging.' At six or seven weeks (if she waseven that old), it's pretty muchinsurmountable. By the time she's having seizure's, there's obviously brain involvement, and even before that point, bunnies at that agerarely do well on antibiotics. The drugs are as likely to kill them as the ailment. And that's if it was only an ear infection. Thatwas the best case scenario. The chances were still slim to none.

It really was the right thing.

I'm so sorry. :(

I believe I've heard that part of it too is the stress that logically comes with immaturity, facing endless new situations, etc, lowers the immune system and that allows issues that older rabbits are able to fight off to compromise and affect the young baby's health. Isn't that the casewith a lot of the'bug' ailments?

She may have had neurologicalproblems from the get-go, or a bug,an infection, or something else, there's no way of telling without a necropsy.

Rabbits are very oftenactive and seemingly healthy like that, and then suddenlythey're not. The biggestproblem with bunny health is that they hide their illnesses so well.

I am so sorry for your loss. It sounds like you made the absolute right decision. Just know that during the time that you had Lolly, she felt loved and happy, and that makes you were the right person for this little one.

I went to the Animal Emergency Center where I live in NW arkansas, its the only one close that was open.

me and my daughter are still tryin to hold back the tears today over her. its so crazy. ! its like I told her I just cant get her adorable little face out of my mind. pictures did not do her justice, she was the most adorable, thing Id ever layed my eyes on, you couldnt help but feel her love you when she snuggled up on you. just prior to it all happening she came and hopped in my hand and I was loving on her and she was almost over sideways so relaxed with her little legs sticking up. I miss that. !
