Is L-theanine safe for bunnies as it is for dogs, cats, and humans? It is for anxiety, separation anxiety, and obsessive behaviors such as licking, chewing, and pulling hair from themselves. Thank you (for a rabbit who pulls his hair out but has not known causes for anxiety).

Not my area, but I know that green and black tea (which contain theanine) are okay in small doses (and as eye washes) in rabbits. Personally, I'd be very sure there's no kidney problems of any kind before trying it. That said, I'd also be concerned at the lack of the desiredbenefit.

Is the rabbit pulling his hair out in a certain spot? Under certain circumstances?

Let us know how it goes.

No way is that rabbit self barbering. It can't possibly pull fur off its own face or behind its neck. I've seen rabbits self barber and self mutilate. That's not what is going on in this situation.

Has the rabbit been tested for fungal infection? What treatments have been tried so far? How old is the rabbit?

I agree with Pam. That rabbit has a severe skin issue- possibly a fungal infection or mange. Does this person's vet treat many rabbits? Not all vets are competant when it comes to rabbits. She could try calling a local rabbit rescue to see who they recommend, or send her here. Maybe there's a vet in our rabbit-savvy vet listings that is near her.

I will give her your site and comments so that maybe she will let you all help her--as you know this stuff! : )) Sherry
