I found a bunny that is already neutered on craigslist, it comes with a bunch of things. It seems the bunny is already a free roam bunny and is on bunny insurance. He was from a breeder since he has a pedigree. And I think he would be an awesome bunny since he is already neutered and so is my bunny. I was just wondering if I could consider this an adoption if I choose this bunny.

Also are you considered a breeder if you rescued a prego rabbit?

As much as i am aware, breeding is considered purposeful mating between two individual rabbits that one owns, and getting kits as a result. If considering adopting a possibly prego bun, i don't think that would make you a breeder at all.

Also, why would it matter where the rabbit originated from in terms of adoption? They were born either way, planned or not. So if they need rehoming, and do not come from places that have rabbits purposefully for selling, then i would call it a rescue rabbit.

Lümi came to us from a family with other pets, and that family got him from a breeder, but it still counts as rescue for me. We don't really have any sheltes with rabbits either, so the traditional shelter rabbits aren't avaliable here.

It wouldn't be considered an adoption, the phrase I would use is a rehoming. That being said, it is still a rabbit in need of a home where the goal of the seller is not to make money. Rescuing a pregnant rabbit wouldn't make you a breeder either, although it would certainly be a more challenging experience.

I don't quite get the meaning of the question, lost in translation I guess. At the end of the day you have a rabbit someone else wanted to go to a new home, no matter how you call it. It's not like there is a official proceedure like with humans. It might be that some group claims to have a monopoly on giving rabbits away, but so what, they can talk what they want all day long, call it adoption, rehoming or whatever. No middle man needed if the circumstances are ok for you and the previous owner.
Those groups can have positive sides too, like some standards about health, bonding help, information for unexperienced people and so on.

Uhm, being a breeder is considered more than just have multiplying rabbits, I would say. There should be a purpose, a goal and a plan on why and how doing things. You can breed for show, meat, pets, to better the breed, or any goal you set for yourself. Getting a pregnant doe quite likely just makes you the future owner of a pile of rabbits. Just multiplying them for a quick buck or just because you happen to have two random rabbits doesn't make you a breeder either in my book.

If you are in the US there might be things to consider, there are so many levels of laws and rules, county, town, zone, HOA, you name it (land of the free, it does look like a joke from outside ;) ) - if the number of animals you are allowed to have at your location is low you could get into trouble, breeder or not. Just remembered a case where, after a break in, an officer noticed a rather large litter of kits, that this were too many animals for this zone and all rabbits were seized.

Depending on where you are located, you can check out your local legislation there can be stated how many rabbits per year you can sell/rehome as a private person, like five per year for instance, and if you will want to sell/rehome more than that you will have to register yourself as a breeder, and that can involve your homecheck if you have enough room for how many rabbits you have and living conditions, it all depends on your local laws. This is not only valid for the US but for other countries as well. You can search your local Department for Agriculture for the info.

If it’s not, will you not take him? He sounds like a great bun and if you can give it a great home go for it and don’t worry about what you call it or what anybody thinks of it!
