Hi everyone,

I have 2 mini rex females who will be turning 1 year old in July. Currently, I have both of them living in a large ExPen which is excellent for them, but I recently moved back into my parent's house and have them in my room. When it is play time I let them run around my room but this is starting to become an issue. They are starting to tare up my carpet and bite my furniture and my parents are not going to be happy about this. I was wondering if it would be ok if I were to get them a smaller indoor cage that is not an ExPen. My idea was to have them in the smaller cage as their home, and when it is playtime, I set up the ExPen to be their play area so that they can't just wander off in my room and under my bed. I have an extension for the ExPen so it would be bigger than their cage now.

I was thinking about getting a cage like this for them:

Here is the size of their cage now:

Here is what the size would look like if I used it as a play area: (The size of the carpet)(4ft by 6ft)

I am open to any other suggestions as well! Thank you!

My opinion is that hutch is pretty good, Here is my idea though, (And some links)

Put the expen around the wall so it can be bigger, (if you want it to be bigger, I think the last picture is a good amount of space) and then have the ends on the sides of the cage. and not shut the cage a lock them in there, They can just sleep and stuff in the cage and then when they want to come out they can come out when they want to. That way you will not have to keep setting up the pen, and your rabbit can have more exercise.
Here is the set up I am talking about....

Then you could get a cage and put your fencing (the one you already have) around it. Here are a few links to cages. But I think yours are fine

(I know these are small but you can leave the door open so they can get to the pen) (and I recommend not having wire on the bottom of your rabbits cage, it is fine to have wire, But put like a blanket or something so your rabbits don't get sores on their paws) Hope this helps. 😊 (and sorry if it is confusing)

Thank you for your feedback! So with this method, would I no longer have to let them run around my room for playtime?

Skip the cage altogether. It is just added expense and unnecessary.

With the pen stretched out so that you make use of an existing wall (or 2 walls/corner), then they'll have plenty of space. You can use a cardboard box for a hidey area but it isn't necessary to put a cage in there. It will only take up floor space.

(Plastic cages are not ideal and those silly plastic ramps and shelf the makers put in them are slippery and just waste space.)

I agree but the rabbits could have more space to hide and stuff. It was just my opinion, (just so you know )☺

Here's a sample of an ex-pen making use of an existing wall just so you can see what I mean.
