So, several weeks ago I took home a baby rabbit dumped at the sanctuary I worked at, only for her to suddenly die after a week. Having her made me realize I utterly miss having a rabbit, so I decided after her death that I would look for a planned rabbit this time. I got into contact with a few breeders in my area and found this woman who owned a smaller rabbitry, but I got good vibes from her. I wasn't planning on a rabbit until later this year or so, but the breeder about three weeks ago told me she had a current litter of lops that would be ready to go in about two weeks and if I had any interest in seeing them. She lives about an hour from me but I decided to go see them, just to check out her rabbitry and look at her rabbits and see if I thought they looked healthy and things seemed to check out.
I went on Monday and she showed me around, then showed me the litter of holland lops she had told me about. They were weaned already but mama was with them and mama appeared healthy and very friendly, and their were three females that I saw right away. They were of course very cute, but I was still feeling like I didn't want to take one home that day and just wait until the breeders next litter...that was, until suddenly this little head popped out from this house in the cage. He was the only boy in the litter, and I don't now what it was about him, but I was in love instantly. So needless to say...I took him home lol.
I named him Squirtle, and he is quite a big boy lol. He is twice the size of his sisters, and at only 7 weeks he is half the size of his mom. So far he seems to be doing really well, but after what happened to my last little baby I have been a worry wart over every little thing he does. He is very very active and loves doing bunny flops to where he's almost lying on his back haha. He hates me touching him though, if he even thinks I might pick him up or pet him he gets as far away from me as he can, but if I just sit on the bed with him he's more then willing to come over and sniff me...as long as I don't move. Not sure if that's a holland lop attitude or if perhaps he's just not used to me yet, but he sure if fun to watch and he's doing really well with his litter box training so far.
Here he is!
