Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum, but I have owned rabbits before. Also from Illinois. I saved Buttercup (adult female Dutch) from my older brother's friend who was going to have her put down because her mother developed an allergy to her. I was 12 at the time and just couldn't let that happen, so I called my parents (who were in Vegas at the time) and convinced them to letme take Buttercup.

I few months after I got Buttercup, I again convinced my parents to let me get a bunny. I do not know what breed Buttons was, but she was a very young female bunny. I saved my money and bought her from a pet store, that I will NEVER be buying from again. Buttons was an amazing bunny and very healthy when I got her, but the salesman told me to use this "special" bedding that contained chlorophyll. I didn't know the damage it would do, but of course Buttons' lungs couldn't filter out the cholorphyll and she passed away a few weeks later.

I had Buttercup until I was 16. We had to put her down because she fell into a hole in our backyard (we didn't know one of our two dogs had been digging back there) and broke both her hind legs.

Now, I am 19 and a Zoology major at Colorado State University. I live in the dorms currently and we are only allowed to have fish in 25 gallon tanks or less. So, I have been treating my animal withdrawl by getting cichlids and they're amazing....but I miss being able to hold and pet my pet. My boyfriend is moving into an apartment with his sister in the fall (he's attending CSU as well) and has offered to house my bunny there so we can care for it together.

I'd love to get advice on breeds and habitats, food, hay, etc. :D

Let me welcome you to Rabbits Online, my name is Dave and I am a moderator on the forum. So if I can be of any help please let me know. This is a terrific website for rabbits and their slaves, not only is it very active but also friendly. I am so glad you’re here and I know you will enjoy it.

Many bunny's recommend their slaves to this site so we may learn of others methods to keeping our furry masters happy.

If you everhave a sick bunny, please post in The Infirmary and include your rabbit's age, breed and health history as well diet and output details leading up to the problem.

I have listed some links I thought you might find interesting:

*For reference the Library section

*To brag or tell everyone about the antics of your bunny or just to talk about your day here is where to start a Bunny Blog, you can also look back at it later and remember when you had a life before your bunny.

*Now all the bunny’s like talk to each other when we mere slaves aren’t around in the Bunny Chat is the spot to be.

*Rabbits Online also has regional forums , this a good way to find a vet in your area that has experience with rabbits and to find out from other nearby of good sources of rabbit supplies.

The Let Your Hare Down section is for anything non-bunny related.

Here is a link tothat will help you and your bunny to connect, How To Bond With Your Bunny.

Now every forum has rules and ours can be found with this link Rabbits Online Forum Rules. This gives guidelines on what is acceptable, what is not and how we hope everyone will treat each other.

Everyone on this forum loves to see pictures of each other’s bunnies. So if you would like to post a picture this link will help you do that, Upload Photo's to Photo Gallery. Then in the post, you click on the "G" in the tool bar to insert your photo. Many people also use Photobucket. You just copy the img file and paste it into the post.

I am glad you have joined rabbits online and I look forward to seeing you around.

[align=center]Hello and welcome to RO ^_^ Thank you for sharing your story!

For breeds, I recommend Dutches (love themmm!) even though you've had one before =)
And Flemish Giants! They're big, but they're usually relaxed and really sweet <3
Mixed breeds are wonderful though as well ^_^
(I have one of each of the above XD)

Also, any age is good too =) Since they usually live for so long. And shelters spay and neuter them ahead of time which saves a lot of money for you =D

For food, I recommend Manna Pro, it's cheap and from Tractor Supply Company. My rabbits LOVE it! So much so that when I switched their food, they insisted on just eating the Manna and not eating their old food... XD I also recommend feeding them veggies ^_^

For hay, they say I'm pretty sure Alfalfa hay until they're 6 months old, then switch to Timothy hay.

A lot of people make cages with NIC panels (obtained from Target usually <-- but you gotta be careful with the square size).
Here's a pic of a pretty simplistic one:

People sometimes go all out!
But the buns usually have out-time and/or a pen to play in =)

I'd be happy to help my best with anything else ^_^

Hey there. I'm new to the fourm too. :) I have Hollands, Hototts, and New Zelands. I love them all. I would recomend a Holland Lop as an apartment bunny. They are super sweet, and so smart. I have three and they each have their own personality, each one plesant but so diffrent from the other.

We are also located in Colorado. :)
