With allthe Mr. Daisy's and the Jackie's-formerly-known-as-Jack's on the forum, we thought we'd collect some 'sex change' stories all in one place.:blushan

Have you been caught by surprise? How has the 'gender fairy' affected you?

Mocha was sexed as a girl at the pet store. My mother-in-law, who used to breed rabbits, swore up and down that Mocha was a boy- she swore she saw the penis! The vet tech who did the pre-neuter exam didn't really look, as I told her what my mother-in-law said. So Mocha went in to be neutered when he was 4.5 months old. I picked "him" up afterwards, and my rather amused vet told me he was a she! Perfectly formed, fully developed uterus and ovaries. The waiting room was full and everybody laughed. :blushan

HaHa The exact same thing happened to me. My rabbit Nora was originally called Dermot as we were told she was a boy by the pet shop. I sent "him" in to get neutered and the vet called to say they were about to start and had realised 'he' was a she.

Snuggy was sold to me as a "neutered male". We named "him" 'Mr. Snuggles'. We thought "he" needed a wife, so we got Baby (definitely female).

Five months later, the vet said, "You do realize Mr. Snuggles has a vagina, right?". Hee hee. Poor girl. We just took the 'Mr.'off her name.

What's funny is last Christmas, when we unpacked the decorations, we found Snuggy's stocking, which, of course, said 'Mr. Snuggles'. Hee hee.

The vet's files still say 'Mr. Snuggles', too.

Hmmm... Oh yeah! one of my rescue-rabbits. This is a bit of a long story, but here goes...

One night my neighbor called me 'cause she knew I had buns, and said "Greta, there's this really cute little bunny on the road!" **a bit about my road: I live 3.5 miles up in the hills, and houses are not close together, so there are thickets and brush and stuff like that.** So off I went to investigate, and there she was... a little netherland dwarf someone had turned loose. Oh, look over there! what's that? another bun! fast forward 1 hour... both buns safely wrapped in towels for the ride home, me tired out and scratched up by berry vines but happy. On the way home, I had "checked" and I was sure the bun I was holding was a doe... the next day, I found out SHE was a HE, and the netherland was a she. Soooo... I soon had kits! yup, january 11, that was the big day! One of the kits I have (avatar) and I also still have the "doe", whose name is Benjamin.

Pipp was sexed by a vet at six months old and scheduled to be neutered. The vet had recommended that I not do the procedure, though, because it was notoriously difficult putting bunnies under, odds were high that he wouldn't make it, and that neutering him wascrueland probably wouldn't calm him down.

I wasn't reading similar thoughts on the net, so I opted for a second opinion, and went to another small animalspecialist.Thatvet looked at Pipp and agreed that it REALLY wasn't a good idea to get him neutered --because PIPPWAS A GIRL!

So much for the first vet. I shudder to think what would have happened had I left her there.

sas :disgustand pipp

When Jen and Us drove all the way out to hillsboro oh from pgh to pick up 3 females.

We had gotten our bun on July 14th. 2 months later I decided to bathe her. Flipped her over and saw 2 big giant pink cajones. :shock:Soooooooooo we had named her SweetPea and it was not right for a boy guy.Soooooooooo we named him MeatHead.

my hubby's mom thought is was so funny and she laughed about it. She had been dianosed with cancer and it happened just weeks before she passed away. So something like that makes me smile cause it made mom smile.

Rest in Peace mom and take care of Hairyette for me.

We bought Max from the pet store as a little baby boy. When we took him in to get checked the vet told us NOPE max is a little girl. So she was then refered to as a "she" for months before we took her into the vet again. This time we took her to another vet because we didnt not like that first one. That vet told and showed us max was all man!!!! Now we cant seem to break calling her a she. We knew we didnt like that first vet for a reason!!

My girls were sexed correctly the first time (by the breeder), and I kept rechecking to make sure. Secretly, I wished one would turn out to be a male so they would be easier to bond after being spayed/neutered. But no gender fairy for me. They are two territorial females who do not want to share, lol.

My mom, who got her bunnies from the same breeder and thought she was getting two girls, ended up with one boy. They were caged together until almost 6 months, but luckily, the gender fairy spared her from getting pregnant. Daisy was moved to a separate cage and renamed Harley. :)

A mth after my male was neutered, i decided its time to get him a girlfriend. So off we go in search for his girlfriend. Saw a lot of bunnies and those we like were all boys n we ended up buying non. A week later, we went to this pet shop n finally saw one bun that we like and was so happy tat its a she. Before buying, i still hold on to the bun for quite a while checking its gender. Finally satisfied that its really a female, we bought her home. Bonded her with him and they are successfully bonded after three days only. So we thought she is definately a she. Two weeks after they had lived together, i suddenly flipped her over and saw the two oblongs at her tail. Man i nearly fainted. Luckily her name is suitable for male n female. And so we laughed tat they are both gay tats why they like each other company. Lol.

Bunrab I love your avatar... Ok heres my story... Which is still going on sadly,

Lacy was said to be a boy by the breeder. Well, I couldn't tell because her whole butt was covered in matted Poop so I brought her home anyways. We decided that he was a she once we cleaned all the poop off of her. Then we had to find a cage to put her in (which we had but it was 10 at night and freezing out!)

Well, I am worried that the breeder was right and Lacy really is a boy. I have yet to decide and so we are waiting till she matures to decide and place her with Leo. Leo is getting neutered in 2 weeks so it doesn't matter either way I guess.

Well - the latest episode is that last night Anissa surprised us with a litter. Mind you - she's been kept in the does' cage for weanlings (she is 5 months old and the cage is huge).

About 25 days ago (I need to go back through my records), one of my favorite does - a harlequin - turned into a buck - literally overnight as I had been checking her every 3- 5 days just to verify this. So did two other does that had been born the same day.

Since they were 9.5 weeks old....I figured, "Well, I caught them in time!".

Guess not....Anissa (a chestnut) had 2 blacks, a chestnut, a pink baby (not sure what it will be) and a harlequin! Looks like my favorite harlequin "doe"...is the culprit.

This was a TOTAL shock to us as I wasn't breeding Anissa at all (going to show her in March) and this was why she was in the does' cage.

I think my favorite story comes from Huntress - who had a rabbit DQ'd on the show table...for the wrong sex. Funny thing is....the rabbit had won shows before as a doe...and was suddenly a buck (if I remember right).

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one the gender fairy visits. And this week - my 8 week olds are being separated into bucks and does......

My biggest problem was that these little does that turned into bucks....were in with older does....like Anissa. These were my does that had to be in there temporairily while I was giving their cages to older bucks and waiting to deliver some rabbits...

Peg

P.S. The awesome part is that the harlequin buck has strengths that Anissa doesn't have - better mane - more depth in shoulders - better face. So I'm REALLY looking forward to her babies!

One of my rabbits were said to be male by the petshop andanother also said to be maleby her previous owner. In the end during their first vet checkup they turned out to be 2 girls. At least i didnt have to change their names, hehe... Bandit and Smurfy arent really a specific gender's name.

And at least you didn't have a girl and a boy...:D

Well, its happened to me twice the first time we bought a buck from a breeder that turned out to have little ones 3weeks later next bought a doe from a diffrent breeder was told it was a no way a buck well it was a he found the little boy sighns a month latter  which was ok to becouse we were looking for a lop buck at the time

Oh man...and I just posted a topic wondering if my 6wk old, Bunny, is male or female. Will the, shall I say, cajones be obvious, or will I still be left guessing in a couple/few months??

I think Lacy may be a Luke! I checked and checked and checked but I still cant find any coconuts... just signs that he is a he! I guess I will find out in a month or so since he is now being housed with Leo. Leo is getting neutered in 2 weeks anyways so...

Hehe thats funny. I had a somewhat simmiler experence. The rule at our fair is that a 4-H has to put the rabbit up on the table. Well our rabbit leader's son also was showing horses so he wasent able to be theere to do this so I was asked to put the rabbit up for him. "It's a jr. buck I was told" so I grab the rabbbit out of the three hole carrier andput the rabbit on the table and the juge looks at it and was like this is not a buck. My fist thought was thatI grabed the wrong rabbit (it was aCaliforin or somting so all the ones in thecaryer looked the same) I explaned that it was not my rabbit and the nice juge looked at the other rabbits in the carier and concluded that their were no bucks. So the rabbit leader came over and was very congused becuse that was the rabbit that she had asked the juge to sex befor the show becuse they were not sure if it was a buck or a doe? The juge was nice about -he had a good laugh.

ohh the gender fairy visited my pippi after he played the role of the bunny gigalo(he was supposed to be a girl)and got two of my girls pregnant,i finally found out when Daisy had 2unexpected babies that Pippi was a boy,i was like:shock:,Pippiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii you little bugger!,i had never ran to the phone so quick to call the vet so i could put a stop to him being a littlebunny gigalo(snip,snip)lol,hmmmm..but 2 weeks after Daisy had her babies,Marshmallow had 3 babies grrr,im like "ohhhhhhhhhhhh pippiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii you are more than a bugger lol.I knew after watching the babies being born and watching them grow day by day,i just could not give them away, that is just how i am,i would worry if they were being looked after properly or are they getting enough attention,i just couldnt do it,so the 5 babies expanded my bunny family:)

Charlie and Cassidy were two of the babies that i sexed as boys the other 3 were girls,so when they were 4 months old i had taken them to the vets to be desexed, about half hour of dropping them off i get a phone call saying that they cannot desex charlie because he is actually a she,and im like "but...but..hmmmmmmmm":shock:i dont know what in the world i was looking at,i swear she was a boy:?,anyway they wouldnt desex her just in case she was pregnant:shock:,but luckily she wasnt.Talk about attitude from a bunny, boy did she let me have it,on the way home i sat her in her basket on the passenger seat,ha she actually glared at me and turned her back,"fine then"i say "be that way"

when we got home ,i let her out and she just gave me the most wicked glare and she stomped her foot about 10 times before stomping off "fine with me"i say back after her,i reckon if she could talk,a few undignified words would have slipped out of her mouth:cool:lol.I think i hurt her dignity as a girl bunny lol.

*giggling*i did tell her i was sorry though, dont know if she believed me though:D
