the digging box is a good idea! i could put some sandpaper at the base of the box! thanks for the idea tamsin 
i'll let you guys know if it does the trick!
Edit: after some thought, box & sandpaper doesn't seem like a good idea.. my rabbits may chew and ingest the sandpaper. i've gotten hold of a 2ftx1ft tile with slightly rough surface, and i put it in a corner of the room with some paper over it for the rabbits to dig.. lets see how that goes..
