Grunting - can this be a good thing? or just conversation?

Popcorn seems very vocal. He sometimes chews his poops (not his cecals, the other ones) and they're on his floor or shelf in dusty bunches. The other day, I grabbed them to toss them out and he grunted at me. He sometimes does the same when I pick up the dropped hay to put back in his hay bin. Can this be conversation or is he really upset when he grunts?

Is all grunting "mean"?

Lilli will grunt when we open her door than comes over and nuzzles wanting a head rub. Rabbits are masters of mixed messages. Just feel she's letting us know who's the boss of the hutch, and, by the way RUB ME!!

When I first had Pepin I couldn't make out the difference between all her noises! But now, I get a real distinction between the "come play with me!" oinking and the "get out of my stuff!" grunting!

I think he's not so much upset or being mean - just letting you know that it's HIS stuff!
